    Schleh, Ph.D., 67
     GORHAM -- Eugene P.A. Schleh, 67, of Gorham passed away Thursday, June 28, 2007. He was born Aug. 7, 1939, in Bronx, N.Y., to Eugene B. and Anna Schleh. He graduated from Union College in 1963 with a degree in Social Science. He obtained his Ph.D. in International Relations from Yale University in 1968. His dissertation research was on Post-service Careers of African World War Two Veterans: British East and West Africa with particular reference to Ghana and Uganda. He went on to become a history professor at the University of Southern Maine. Eugene was the Department Chair of the History Department as USM from 1973-1977 and 1984-1987. He retired in 1996.
     He was the recipient of numerous professional awards and honors, allowing him the freedom to study and teach his true passion, African History. In this pursuit, he traveled to the U.K., Uganda, Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania and several times to South Africa. He was also an accomplished author publishing many great works including his favorite The Mysteries of Africa.
     In his spare time, Mr. Schleh enjoyed reading mystery novels, crossword puzzles and old movies along with spending time with family. He took great pride in his grandchildren and couldn't wait to hear each day of all their sporting events and schooling. He is survived by his son Eugene; daughter-in-law Jennifer and their three children, Ian, Bethany and Nicholas all of Gorham; a son Bruce; daughter-in-law Kate and their daughter Phoebe, of Richmond; and a daughter, Kristine, her husband Dwayne and their son Darryl, all of Waterboro.
     A private family service honoring his life will be held. Arrangements are under the guidance of Dolby and Dorr Funeral Chapel, Gorham.
