Gerald Seavey Obituary

Gerald (Jerry) Seavey, 81
WINDHAM - Gerald (Jerry) Seavey passed away on March 12, 2015, at his home, surrounded by family after a prolonged illness. He was 81 years old. Jerry was born on Sept. 5, 1933, in Windham. He was the only child of Clyde and Helen Hall Seavey. He graduated from Windham High School and went on to attend SMTC for automotive repair.
Jerry's first business endeavor was to operate a gas and service station at the Boody's Corner in Windham. He later worked for Courie Pontiac as a mechanic in Portland, and drove truck for Mobil Oil and Merrill Transport.
In 1961, he joined his father, Tink, at the Rotary in Windham, operating an automotive parts store and started selling and servicing appliances and electronics. In 1966, along with his longtime business associate, Dick Morrell, Seavey's Automotive grew over the next four years to have four locations in Windham, Gray, Fryeburg and Cornish.
Jerry served on many town committees and was one of the original founders of The North Windham Businessmen's Association (now the Sebago Lakes Region Chamber of Commerce). He was honored with numerous business awards over the years along with The Windham Business Person of the Year Award in 1989. He was also a past supporting member of the Windham Rotary, Pleasant River Grange, Masons and Kora Temple Shrine.
Probably one of Jerry's proudest periods of his life, outside of business and family, was his love for auto racing. After he and business partner Dick Morrell teamed up with local racing hero, Homer Drew, to tour the now famous #J2 & #22, Playboy Racing Team Chevrolets from Virginia to Canada. He was once appointed the title of "Old Quick & Sticky," by a national racing columnist. After many local championships and wins at the local Beech Ridge track, they moved off the dirt onto the asphalt tracks, and for many years dominated the Open Competition classes at Bangor, Unity, Wiscasset and Oxford Plains Speedway. They also toured the Northern NASCAR ranks in Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Canada, with a trip south to the Martinsville Speedway in Virginia. Jerry was recently inducted into the Maine Racing Hall of Fame.

In 1976, Jerry married the love of his life, Penelope. She stood fast by his side in his illustrious personal and business career right through the evening of his passing. He is survived by his wife, Penny Seavey; his four children, three sons, Tim Seavey and partner Kim Bintliff, Tom Seavey, and Toby Seavey and partner John Cacciapuoti, and daughter, Terry Smith; along with four stepchildren, Paul Bourget, Raymond Bourget, Theresa Seavey and Denise Bourget Arnau. Also survived by his 16 grandchildren, Heather, Chris, Katie, Jarrod, Olivia, Shauna, Sheri, Sam, Aaron, Ben, Seneca, Joey, Rianna, Christopher, Vincent and Kristina; nine great-grandchildren, Alec, Andrew, Harper, Payton, Rees, Quinn, Annabelle, Ella and Penelope.

Jerry was predeceased by his parents; and first wife, Joan.
Jerry will always be remembered for his quick wit, always ready to celebrate with friends and family, honesty and integrity. His handshake was his word.
The family would like to thank the staffs at Springbrook Health Care Center and Maine Medical Center for all of the kind and compassionate care they gave to Jerry.
A celebration of Jerry's life will be held at a later date. Arrangements by the Dolby Funeral Chapel, 434 River Rd., Windham. Condolences to the family may be left at www.dolbyfuneralchapels.com

Jerry and Penny were responsible for introducing us to our large and wonderful circle of friends. After introducing us to Naples, Florida and many stays with Penny and Jerry at their home, we chose Naples to retire to. Jerry was a very giving man and always wanted friends to be at his home and around him. We will miss him and think of him often. Our "Seavey" stories will keep his memory alive in us forever. Our sincere sympathy to Penny and all the family. Rest in peace our dear friend and thank you for all you did for us. We still have our t-shirts and refrigerator magnets that say "Do it in a microwave from Seaveys."

Penny, Terry and Family,

Growing up living next door to Gerry and Penny at Little Sebago lake will always be some of my most fondest memories. He was another grandfather to me. Later in life when he retired to FL and I myself was living in Windham, I would always make a point to stop in and see them. To catch them up on the family doing's. I will miss those conversations, but hold all of the memories near and dear to my heart.

Now go find Gramp and go fishing

Our love always,
Kelly-Gene (Sturgeon) Kenney and family
