Gloria Dean Obituary

Gloria M. Dean, 75
NORWAY - Gloria M. Dean passed away at the age of 75 after a long illness at the Ledgewood Nursing Home in Windham on Dec. 3, 2014. She was surrounded by her children when she left to dance with the angels.
Gloria was born on Oct. 5, 1939, in Gorham. She attended Gorham schools and graduated from Fryeburg Academy in 1957. She attended Gorham State teachers college where she met and married Mike Dean.
Gloria stayed home to raise her two boys before she went to work for the U.S. Postal Service. She delivered mail in Gorham for 22 years where she befriended many until her retirement. Gloria lived in Gorham, Westbrook, Standish and Norway. At each of her homes, she enjoyed maintaining her beautiful flower and vegetable gardens. She loved to share her perennials with other gardener's and her knowledge of plants. Gloria was also an avid reader; she often had a novel in her hand and was excited to share the latest.
In addition to her gardening and reading, she enjoyed spending time with her family. She especially liked doting on her five grandchildren, attending their school activities, sports and musical events and was truly interested in whatever they were doing. She never missed an opportunity to read to them, give them a book, play a card game or add to their latest collections.
Gloria was predeceased by her brother, Richard; and her parents, Lewis H. (Harley) and Helen P. Leavitt Blake. Gloria leaves behind her husband of 56 years, D.E. Mike Dean of Norway; her son, Mark Dean of Windham and his two children, Gina and Anthony Dean of Portland, her son, Peter Dean and his wife Peggy of Gorham and their three children, Rebecca, Marshall and Blake Dean and her only great-grandson, Hunter Dean; two sisters, Harlene Richardson of Naples, Fla., and her two children, Heidi and Robert Engman, and Marilyn Berry and her husband Robert of Myrtle Beach, S.C. and their two children, Linda Ashworth and Greg Berry.
Gloria will be remembered for her smile, her laugh, her long tight hugs, her generous giving nature and her positive outlook on life.
A "Celebration of Life" will be held on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2014, from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. at the Dolby Funeral Chapel, 434 River Rd., Windham. For online condolences, please visit our website at dolbyfuneralchapels.com.

Knew her as a child playing in her sand box on Robby Hill. She turned in to a fine young lady. I ran with her brother Dick until out of school, than kind of lost contact. The whole family always treated me fine - went with them to their camp on Bonny Eagle and farm plot in Groville. It was a good life. It's good to know that Gloria led a happy life. My condolences to her family and sisters. Pete Wilder
