Helene Randall Obituary

Helene Ellis (Barnes) Randall, 97 SOUTH PORTLAND - Helene Ellis (Barnes) Randall, 97, passed away Dec. 30, 2009 in South Portland. She was born in Biddeford, a daughter of Clarence and Bridy Payne Ellis. Helene attended Biddeford schools, and, as a young woman, she worked in the Biddeford and Saco Mills until she married her first husband, Samuel H. Barnes. Mr. Barnes, while serving in the US Army, died in the European Theatre during World War II. During World War II, Helene volunteered to identify incoming aircraft along with her son, Robert, while they were living on the west coast. She married Edward E. Randall in 1948 and he died in 1987. Helene did volunteer work for Meals on Wheels for many years. She loved dancing and taking short trips, and being with her grandsons. Helene is survived by her son, Robert E. Barnes and his wife, Christine; two grandsons, Robert and Richard Barnes; two great-granddaughters and two great-grandsons; and one great-great-grandson. At her request there will be no service. Private spring burial will be held at the Highland Memorial Gardens in South Portland. The family would like to thank all the personnel at the South Portland Nursing Home for the wonderful loving care of Helene during the past eight years. Arrangements are by the Dolby Funeral Chapel, 434 River Road, Windham
