Jane Sellers Obituary

Jane Borson Sellers, 91
CHICAGO, Ill. - Jane Borson Sellers, 91, died Oct. 28, 2017, in Chicago, where she was born on Feb. 28, 1926.
She rejoiced in memories of her "good life" as one of five children, of whom her sister, Lynne Turco, survives her. Her brother, Bill Borson, was killed in World War II; her brother Jack, who served in the Pacific during that war, died at age 42; her sister Dianne died in 2015.
Jane married Eldon Lee Sellers, a WWII pilot, in 1945; the marriage ended after five years, during which their sons William and Rorick were born. They remarried for another five years while the boys were in high school, and remained good friends. After the boys left for college, she, too, left for school, earning the undergraduate degree she began at UCLA in 1944 and completed at Goddard College in Vermont. She studied briefly at the Oriental Institute of the University of Chicago. She traveled extensively. Egypt, Morocco, and Italy were favorites, but the coast of Maine was her great love, along with her research. Jane was proud to have introduced her children to Down East Maine in 1969, where they vacationed for decades with their children and grandchildren.
In 1985, she bought a condo in the newly-renovated Carroll Mansion, in Portland, where she lived for 10 years. In 2004, she again moved to Maine with her youngest son and daughter-in-law, who had purchased a home in Portland. In 2012 she returned to Chicago to live with her eldest son, Bill, and his wife Jill.
She is survived by her two sons, William and Rorick; granddaughters Elizabeth, Caitlin, Morgan, and Amber Sellers; and great-grandsons William, Khalil, Walker, Callahan, and Alex. She was a close friend of Hugh Hefner, having attended the same high school; and a fortunate investment in Playboy magazine in 1953 later allowed her to invest in real estate, which gave her the leisure to travel the world, study hieroglyphics and ancient astronomy, and write "The Death of Gods in Ancient Egypt." This nonfiction book, originally published in 1992 by Penguin UK, is still in print, thanks to Lulu Press.
Memorial service is pending. Arrangements are by Cremation Society of Illinois, 773-281-5058 or www.cremation-society.com.

Just looking at some artwork and thinking of my aunt Jane. I can't believe she is gone. We miss her so much. She was the most interesting person anyone could meet, very artistic in everything she did. She had such an exciting life and so different from her sisters Lynne and Dianne. I wish I could have gotten some of her traits, but I did not. I think her grandchildren did, I saw a picture in Florida that one granddaughter had painted and it was just like Aunt Jane. My mom, Lynne, is the last sister left and she misses both of them so much. I'm so happy she was my aunt and I wish I could have spent more time with her. She was amazing! Love & miss her so much.

Janie was my father's sister (my aunt) and my growing up years are filled with memories of her staying with us from time to time in our house in Fox Lake. She was the most creative person I ever knew. She put on marionette shows and wrote her own scripts. She did shadow shows of mock surgeries that fascinated not only the kids but also the adults. Her stories of Horace the Horse kept me enchanted. It was no surprise when many years later Penguin published her first book...not a fantasy but a well researched book used as a text in college courses. She was a very special, unique person who added many magical memories to my life.
