John Bloom Obituary

John Carlton Bloom, 90
SCARBOROUGH - John Carlton Bloom died amongst family on Monday, Sept. 24, 2018 at the Holbrook Health Center of Piper Shores in Scarborough. He was 90 years old. He was a gentleman of highest integrity who valued family above all. He gave and received loving respect from all family, friends and associates.
John was born in Newton, Mass. on Sept. 9, 1928 to Carlton Wilfred and Elizabeth Lorine Stewart Bloom. John grew up in Weston, Mass. before attending Phillips Academy ('48) and Harvard College ('52). On April 2, 1952, John married Rose Lee Busk of Chestnut Hill, Mass.
After Marine service, he began his production and manufacturing management career in sectors ranging from the paper industry to machinery designed to install electronic circuit boards. As a business person he valued honesty and responsibility.
John was curious, observant, articulate, and though quiet and independent, truly engaging. His leisure interests were many and varied, including sport fishing, music, travel, food and wine, gardening and birding.
An avid sports fan, he exhibited the disciplined qualities of a professional, as he was seen on his daily vigorous walks that served him so well, both mentally and physically.
John's family wishes to thank all the medical staff attending to him with technical prowess delivered with clarity and care through the last several months of his life. The family also thanks the staff at Piper Shores and Holbrook Health Center for their loving, supportive and professional care.
He was predeceased by his half-brothers, Stewart and Stephen Ellis. He is survived by his wife, Ro, of Piper Shores; son Scott Bloom and daughter-in-law Shawn O'Neil of Cape Porpoise, son Leigh Bloom and daughter-in-law Michele Sakaguchi of Whidbey Island, Wash.; grandchild Hana Bloom and husband Alexander Hernandez of Bothell, Wash., and grandchild Toby Bloom of Seattle, Wash. Hana and Alex's first-born baby girl is due in the very near future.
An informal gathering to celebrate John's life will be planned for a time when all family can attend.

Dear Aunt Ro, Cousins Leigh and Scott & the rest of the extended Bloom family. The Charlton, MA Ellis' Kim & Mark and our Beacon Hill, MA Leech boys James & Ryan extend our deepest sympathy. John was well loved and will be missed greatly. We know he's swinging a rod right now at Nauset Inlet for striped bass once again with Pop/Stephen Ellis and Uncle Dad and the three of them are catching up on old times.
