NEWCOMB, Winthrop H. "Brook" It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Winthrop Holbrook Newcomb, who departed this life peacefully, at his home in Mashpee, on February 19, 2026, at the age of 77, after a courageous year-long battle with lung disease. Known to those who loved him as "Brook," he was born on October 1, 1948, in Needham, MA, to Winthrop and Elizabeth (Holbrook) Newcomb. He is the beloved husband of Mary Ann (Brennan) Newcomb with whom he shared 49 wonderful years of marriage. Brook was a great student, who loved learning and attended Phillips Academy, Williams College, and Harvard Business School. He spent the majority of his professional life working in finance, and in retirement found satisfaction tutoring and guiding high school students. A loving husband, father, brother, and friend, Brook had a lifelong passion for being involved in the lives of his children and grandchildren. He coached and cheered them on from the sidelines, read to them, and relished every opportunity to laugh together. He cherished traveling with Mary Ann and friends, and throughout the years enjoyed playing bridge, mountain climbing, and tennis. Brook will be remembered for his integrity, kindness, generosity, and the unwavering love he showed his family. His warmth touched countless lives, and he leaves a legacy of deep affection and meaningful impact on all who knew him. Brook is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Ann Brennan Newcomb of Mashpee, MA; their three children, Peter Holbrook Newcomb (Marianne van Brummelen), of Dobbs Ferry, NY, Molly Dwyer (Patrick Dwyer) of Charlotte, NC and Patrick Winthrop Newcomb (Jessica Stella) of Wakefield, MA; his two sisters, Deborah Nightingale of New Canaan, CT and Elizabeth Beth of Princeton, MA; and most dear to his heart were his beloved grandchildren who brought him endless joy, Keegan, Aidan and Caroline Dwyer of Charlotte, NC, Finn, Cole and Chase Newcomb of Dobbs Ferry, NY and Conor and Leah Newcomb of Wakefield, MA. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at 11:00 AM, at Christ the King Church, 5 Job's Fishing Rd., in Mashpee.
