Katherine Clark Obituary

Katherine Marion Clark
SCARBOROUGH -- Katherine Marion Clark was best known to Portland natives as 'the Cookie Lady.' Yet, Katherine was much more than that to the numerous people who were touched by her compassion, humor, formidable strength, determination and courage. As one friend put it 'ÉShe was a force of wonderful, crazy, loving energy.'
On Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2011, Katherine died peacefully in her home after succumbing to breast cancer.
Katherine's passion for life infused everything she did. As an entrepreneur, she successfully started and owned Chips of Portland and later, Nasty Neat Compulsive Cleaning, Inc. A consummate sales woman, Katherine also worked for several years as a Sales Associate at Roche Bobois, where she earned top salesperson status among all domestic and international furniture stores in the corporation.
Katherine was born to Margaret Mary Lombard Clark and William Augustus Clark III on July 15, 1947, at the Naval Hospital Philadelphia, PA. Her family moved to Cape Elizabeth in her early childhood, where she graduated from Cape Elizabeth High School in 1965. After many moves throughout the United States and Europe, Katherine settled in Boston, Mass., where she attended Boston University with a major in public relations.
Katherine's true passion, however, was for the power of the ocean and sharing laughter with her family and friends. She returned to Maine during her illness, surrounded by her loved ones and the sea; just as she wished.
Katherine was predeceased by her mother, father; brother, Christopher Clark; and her granddaughter, Zora Grey Dixon. Katherine is survived by her daughter, Kalahn Taylor-Clark, son-in-law, Thomas Dixon, and granddaughter, Samara Dixon, of Mclean, Va.; sisters, Dorothy Buck of Raleigh, N.C., and Carol Clark of Cape Elizabeth, a brother, William Clark of Portland; nieces, nephews; many family and friends; and her loyal cocker spaniel, Carmelita.
Katherine's family and friends will celebrate her life on Saturday, Jan. 14, at 2 p.m., in Portland. Details to follow. Online condolences may be expressed at www.hobbsfuneralhome.com.

KAth, as I called you, you are so missed your presence in your voice your laugh your empathy, your love for people. Specially your family.!
I saw a post the other day in the Cape Elizabeth year in 1965 when we graduated in there you was a picture of you running for Miss Cape, Elizabeth, and we were all in the audience cheering you on!
I pray for you every day I want to meet you when I´m there in heaven, so whether or not if want me to or not I pray for you every day. I love you my friend and I miss you. Until we meet again, and I am grateful to have Dottie and she is a source of love for me and I enjoy her friendship and love.
Saying that I miss she was an understatement. You´re part of

my soul and I love you.

Kathy, was the BEST FRIEND I have ever known, we met when we were 11, and have remained best of friends through the years. Our lives took different directions, but no matter where we were, we always stayed in each other life. I have never met a more independant person, and her laughter will fill my heart, until the day we meet again. What a true blue friend, with unbounded courage.
I love you Kath, and I'll always bring you where ever I go.My love to her family!

I worked at the Cookie Shop in my late 20's. Kathy was incomparable, hysterically funny, a whirlwind of guts and energy. She used to say often that the cookie shop would have made a great sitcom and she was right; it would have been a hit starring the great Katherine Clark. Love to her friends and family, especially Kalahn whose image represented and graced Chips of Portland. Goes without saying how proud her mama is of her.

I am Billy Clark III's first cousin Marge Clark Chick. I was divorced and lived with my 3 girls on Goudy Street in So. Portland, Katherine and her siblings used to come to play with my girls or came to visit with thier Grammie, my Aunt Marion Clark. I visited your Dad at Deering Pavilion when I came North; I had lived 22 years in Florida. My husband passed away 3 years ago and I returned to Maine. I now live at the Park Danforth on Stevens Ave. in Portland. I'm very sorry for your loss; she was a beautiful lady and the photo reminded me of my cousin Kay Bowker when she was young. Your Second Cousin, Marge Clark Chick

"There are two ways of spreading light: to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it." Edith Wharton
Katherine was both the candle and the mirror. She loved her friends and family unconditionally. I will always treasure her friendship and the memories of all the laughter and history we share. Her light can never be extinguished.

Words can't express the hurt and loss I feel. Kathy was always living life on her terms and never cared who didn't like it. She would always encourage me to do the same. Every person that came to know her or enter her presence were touched in unforgetable ways. Kathy was my Ma when I wasn't around my mother and we always loved one another even when we did or said something stupid. I LOVE U MOMMY!!! AND YOUR CRAZINESS AND LAUGHTER WILL ALWAYS LIVE IN MY HEART!!!

My thoughts and condolences go to kathy's family. Kathy was a wonderful free spirit and go-getter. If it needed done, Kathy would be there to help! My thoughts go back to the early days that earned kathy the title "Cookie Lady"! I was honored to be one of the first of her delivery/sales force, when her success as a retail shop in the Old Port inspired her to move to branching out to the surrounding Portland area!! Worked hard, laughed lots, played earnestly. I'm sure Kathy will be greatly missed by those who remained close to her. May you all have peace in this difficult time.
