Kenneth Bradford Spooner, 67
LAKELAND, Fla. -- Kenneth Bradford Spooner, 67, of Lakeland, Fla. and Strong, died on July 24, 2010, in a tragic motorcycle accident.
He was born on Dec. 10, 1942, in Caribou, to Kenneth L. and Jane (Martin) Spooner. Ken was a graduate of Husson University, Bangor in Business Management. He served in the Army as a Military Policeman and as Administrative Assistant to Brigadier General Victor L. Cary in St. Louis, Mo.
In 1973, he began his civilian career as Service Representative for Alexander Ferguson of the Maine Credit Union League Insurance Trust; and in 1986, Ken became its president. In 1994, he became the Marketing Director for Evergreen Credit Union in Westbrook. He was very active in business development and served as President of both the Windham Rotary Club and Windham Chamber of Commerce.
During Christmas holidays, he delighted in serving as Ken 'Motorcycle Santa' Spooner for the Chamber.
After moving in 2002 to Lakeland, Fla., he began working part-time as Security Officer for U.S. Security Associates at River Ranch RV Resort. Recently he also was serving as Manager at Saddlebags RV Resort in Lake Wales, Fla. Wherever Ken worked, he developed close lasting personal relationships. Ken loved people and shared his infectious sense of humor with all around him. He would want all who knew him to remember him with a smile.
He was a man of many interests but his favorites were billiards, motorcycling, photography, woodworking and time with his family and friends.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 44 years, Ginita P. Spooner; aunt Anna Marie Roberts of Caribou; brother-in-law Stephen E. Peary of Strong; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; and sisters-in-law, Corinne P. Foster and Patricia G. Peary.
A celebration of his life was held in Lakeland, Fla. on July 28, 2010. On Aug. 18, at 2 p.m., at the Maine Veterans' Cemetery on Mt. Vernon Road in Augusta, a Military Service will be held. A celebration of life gathering will take place afterwards.

At Husson we were in the Penobscot Hotel. Sept.1962 to May 1963. Roomed across the hall from each other. He loved to shoot pool and was somewhat of a prankster. One time he basically trashed my room and I returned the favor. However, he convinced me that he didn't do it and then I apologized all over the place. Yes, I remember those days. We were young and trying to find our way in life. RIP - Kenn

In our Freshman year at Husson, I roomed across the hall from Ken. My first trip to Aroostook County, Caribou, was with Ken in 1963. I recall fond memories of Ken and of those times. I read this news in the Husson Ledger recently and was deeply saddoned.

So sorry to hear of Ken's passing. I worked at River Ranch while he was there. Will always remember that no matter how hectic things there could be on a holiday weekend, Ken always had a smile to lighten the stress.

Dear Ginny, Allen and I want to send you our most heartfelt condolences in your tremendous loss of a friend, Ken. In the years with GWRRA, Ken was a great asset to the Association and to his fellow Chapter C. Although you two moved away several years ago, you were never but a thought away in our minds and heart. I look through the many pictures of our get-togethers on motorcycle rides, lunches etc. and remember how much Ken loved bread and loved to eat. An Ice Cream Run was held last week in his honor here in Lewiston, Maine. Take care, Ginny. We are but an email or a phone call away. You are certainly in our thoughts and prayers.
