Lyman Huff Obituary

Lyman P. Huff, 91 KENNEBUNKPORT -- Lyman P. Huff, 91, a life long resident of the Pier Road, Cape Porpoise died Friday, May 29, 2009, at St. Andre Health Care Facility in Biddeford after a lengthy illness. Lyman was born in Kennebunkport March 1, 1918, the son of Lyman H. and Goldie Perry Huff. Lyman's ties to Cape Porpoise go back to the founding of the community. He was born and brought up here and spent nearly his entire adult life with his loving wife Louise Clark, the daughter of boat builder Clement Clark, in their home at the head of the harbor. They took great pride in 1969 when they purchased and restored the Olde Garrison House, the oldest house in the village. Having spent his entire life on or beside the waters of Cape Porpoise, no one loved this special place more. He attended Cape Porpoise and graduated from Kennebunkport High School. During World War II Lyman served in the Merchant Marines. He was a member of the Maine Lobstermen's Association, the Cape Porpoise Fire Department and the Church on the Cape in Cape Porpoise. He was predeceased by his wife Louise in 1995; a brother Lt. Donald Huff, brother Commander Emery Huff, and sister Helen Huff Holmberg. Lyman is survived by his sister Dorothy Huff Porter; and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer St., Kennebunk Tuesday evening, June 2 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 3, at the Church on the Cape, Langsford Road, Cape Porpoise with the Rev. Ruth Merriam officiating. Interment in Arundel Cemetery Kennebunkport. Arrangements by the Bibber Memorial Chapel 67 Summer St., Kennebunk. www.bibberfuneral.com.
