Malcolm Bacon Obituary

Malcolm A. Bacon
NAPLES -- Malcolm A. Bacon passed away Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2006, at the Bridgton Health Care Center supported by his family after a long illness.
He was born on Aug. 29, 1928, a son of James and Gladys Chaplin Bacon of Naples. At nine years of age Malcolm started going to work with his father, who operated a large power shovel doing road construction. He was always learning the trade from his father and, after graduating from Bridgton High School in 1947, he was prepared to operate a power shovel by himself. For approximately 24 years Malcolm operated heavy equipment for Lane Construction Company of Meriden, Conn., and 12 years for Santino Viola of Portland. He also ran a small excavating business from his home and was always enthusiastic about his work.
Malcolm much enjoyed hunting in Maine, New England and Canada. In 1986 he realized a long-time desire of going on an African Safari.
He was a Past Master of Oriental Lodge No. 13 AF&AM and a member of Kora Temple Shrine. Malcolm contributed to the Lodge in many ways, among them was doing much of the excavation for the new Lodge Hall in Bridgton. He was Past Patron of Pondicherry Chapter No. 192 Order of the Eastern Star eight times.
He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Louisa Duffus. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Rachel Howard Bacon of Naples; five children, John of Gorham, Malcolm of Freedom, N.H., Mary Reed and husband Arthur of Poland, Patricia Sharkey and husband Jack of Warren, and Justin of Naples; six grandchildren, Matthew and Kelley Reed, Michael and Rachel Feero, and Nathaniel and Jameson Bacon; his sister, Rosalie Bacon Mosher of Gorham; and his brother Erwin of Millinocket.
Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Friday with a 7 p.m. Masonic Service at Hall Funeral Home, 165 Quaker Ridge Rd., Casco. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at the Naples United Methodist Church in Naples Village with Pastor Norman Boulay officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to:

I think often of the times I spent with you and Malcolm in the hospital over the past years. Knowing Malcolm has been a blessing to my life. I will never forget his wonderful stories and sense of humor. Especially his story telling. Rachel, you and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

To my fellow Bacons,

I am so sorry to hear about Malcolm's passing. His attendence at my 3d degree meant more than words can say, and I could tell he was as moved by the ceremony as I was. His dedication and love for the Craft prepared him to be seated at the right hand of the Supreme Architect of the Universe. He was a wonderful man and the many stories shared with me by my mother and father, Rosalie and James, about Malcolm will always be with me. Hiram is finally home.

With love,

Linda Bacon-Quimby
