Martina Takami Obituary

Martina M. Takami, 30
PORTLAND - Martina Mieko Takami died on Aug. 6, 2015, at age 30. Our Tina was funny, so smart, sensitive, generous, and protective of others. Stunning, artistic, and athletic, she ran like a gazelle, she wore clothes beautifully and had a strong personal presence.
Magnetic and lovable though Tina was, she was dealt the miserable hand of mental illness and drug addiction together. Tina was tough and fierce - she fought hard for 16 years, but was finally towed under by the too often lethal combination of psychiatric and substance use disorders. In the end, she took her own life.
Our beloved princess of power is gone and the world is forever different for her loving friends and family left behind: her brother Tyrone; cousins Erin, Colin, Emma, Kate, Emiko, Ben, Lindsay, Yoshi, Sanae, Takao, Mateo; aunts, uncles; and senior cousins Fran and Andrew, Marc and Anne, Mimi and Kathy, Mark and Cindy, Julie and Rich, Wendy and Bill, David and Suzu, Tachi and Leslie, Bruce, David, John Eliot, all the Cullens and Ciullas. And her found family: Leslie, Tony, Adri, Katie, Ivan, Tiffany, Krista… and Gus. She also leaves behind her mother Deirdre Coltrera and her father Jonathan Takami.
No service is yet planned by the family.

A memorial bench on the
West End of Portland is planned and a GoFundMe page has been started for it:

What an awful thing to learn about the child I remember holding as a baby. How sad I am for her, and for you who loved her. Gone, gone, gone beyond gone.

Tina truly was a "ONE OF A KIND",so SPECIAL there could only be one of her kind. She had a beautiful smile, amazing sense of humor, honorable display of loyalty, the freeist of spirits, and was outgoing, and outspoken.Tina was that rare breed that was not only beautiful on the outside, but on the inside as well.I have to admit I was in AWE of Tina.I never understood how someone so beautiful could not see the beauty she possessed.Looking back now I realize this is truly one of life's most difficult challenges, having the ability to see in ourselves what other's see in us.We tend to be our harshest critics. My heart aches just thinking about the pain and suffering that she struggled with.Tina,if you could have only seen the Tina all of your friend's and your family could see.May you be at rest and peace now.My DEEPEST and SINCEREST CONDOLENCES to ALL WHO KNEW and LOVED TINA.

So sad, I had Tina as a student. She was fiercely independent. I hope she is free of her earthly bondage and soaring high. Indeed, a special person.
