Maurice Tanguay Obituary

Maurice Tanguay, 69
WESTBROOK - Maurice Tanguay, 69, of Bridge Street, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on April 16, 2006, Easter Sunday, at Maine Medical Center following a courageous battle with colon cancer.
He was born in Westbrook, a son of Albert and Anna Richards Tanguay and attended St. Hyacinth's School.
Maurice worked at Dana Warp in Westbrook and Giguere Blasting for a short time before he began working in the wood yard of S.D. Warren.
In 1959, he married Barbara I. Annis and was soon drafted into the U.S. Army where he served in Korea.
Upon returning home, he continued working at the mill before buying a dairy farm on the High Road in Cornish, a true labor of love. The Tanguay farm was known as a great place for conversation, a welcomed meal and fresh milk for sale from the cooler. Maurice and his wife would spend several years at the farm and have their sixth child before selling the farm and moving to Gorham.
He then began working at Brooklawn Memorial Park in Portland where he spent more than 30 years of dedicated and loyal service before semi-retiring last year.
He was known as a gentle, loving man, who was always there for someone in need. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and uncle and was always concerned with the well-being of his family. He was considered to be very handy and was sure to have some insight to any dilemma.
By far, his most enjoyable thing in life was spending time with his family. He always made sure they were taken care of and could never do enough to help.
He was predeceased by an infant son, John Albert in 1966; and a sister, Theresa Mondor in 1983.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Barbara I. Tanguay of Westbrook; five daughters, June M. Lentz and her husband Michael of Westbrook, Jeannette M. Tanguay of Portland, Joanne M. Curtis and her husband Kevin of Portland, Jennifer M. Lentz and her husband Daniel of Portland, and Judy M. Jensen and her husband Todd of Westbrook; a son, John A. Tanguay of Portland and his fiancŽ Sharon Carlson of Westbrook; grandchildren, Danielle, Natisha, Courtney, Derek, Darci, Jami, Marrisa, Catherine, Daley, John, Abigail, Elizabeth, Adelia and another on the way; brothers, Joseph of Biddeford, Leo of Westbrook, Henry of Gray, and Philip and Richard, both of Gorham; sisters, Rita Tardiff of Gorham, and Yvette Girouard, Annette Ledoux, Constance Baillargeon, Irene Trepanier and Margaret Palmer, all of Westbrook. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday at Blais & Hay Funeral Home, 35 Church St. Westbrook. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday at St. Hyacinth's Church on Brown Street in Westbrook. Friends and family are asked to meet at the church and not visit the funeral home prior to the Mass. A brief flag ceremony in his memory will follow at Brooklawn Memorial Park. A committal service with military honors will be held at 12 p.m. at St. Hyacinth's Cemetery in Westbrook.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to:
    Barbara Bush Foundation
    22 Bramhall St.
    Portland, Maine 04102

The Tanguay family would like to acknowledge his friends at Casco Bay Dialysis Center and Dr. Kurt Ebrahim.
