Ham, 36
PORTLAND -- Michael Chester Ham, 36, of Portland, passed away unexpectedly on Oct. 11, 2014. Michael was born in Portland on Nov. 20, 1977, to Warren and Joanne (Cavallaro) Ham. Michael attended Portland High School where he enjoyed playing football. As a freshman his touchdown won the Turkey Day game. He continued to play through his high school years and appear on the news sport channel for Friday night games. He played semi-pro football after school and continued to enjoy the game.
He worked for the Carpenter Union until he had a head injury in California on Sept. 29, 2008. He started school in San Diego for deaf language and moved back home to continue schooling at SMTC (SMCC) for engineering. He was so proud of his test scores. He always enjoyed going to school even as a child.
He was a loving young man and loved his boys and family so much. You would always see Michael with a smile and a helping hand.
In addition to his parents Michael is survived by his sons, Issac and Michael Ham; his sister, Melissa Ham; his special uncle, Mike; and his nephews, Dasaun and Jamils.
Family and friends are invited to visiting hours from 3 to 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 17, 2014, at A.T. Hutchins Funeral and Cremation Services, 660 Brighton Ave., Portland. To share memories and condolences with the family, please go to www.athutchins.com.

I only met him briefly on campus at the Captain's Cupboard. We spoke briefly, but the impression I received from him was he was a funny guy who loved life. I am so sorry for your loss. Rest in Peace Michael Chester Ham.

Mike was former student of mine in both English Comp. and Literature at SMCC. He always had a smile on his face and was super respectful. I remember him writing about his sons, his special uncle, and also football. We both had a bit of a hearing loss, so we sort of joked in classes when we couldn't understand each other. He was not afraid to ask me to repeat things! He worked hard in my classes and I am so sorry to hear of his passing. In fact, I saw him on campus a few weeks ago, and he took a minute to say hello, and with a big smile on his face as always. My condolences and blessings to the family.

Mike, AKA Hammy, was the kind of guy who you just wanted to be around. Full of positive energy and always genuine. I wish I had seen him recently. He was a great competitor on the field and a great friend. My condolences to his family. RIP Hammy.
