Muriel Fanning Obituary

Muriel Rose Fanning, 86 BRUNSWICK -- Muriel Rose Fanning, 86, of 85 Hennessey Avenue, died Monday, Dec. 28, 2009, at her home. She was born in Newark, N.J., May 22, 1923, the daughter of Augustus and Mary Kelly Erickson. She graduated from Our Lady of the Valley High School in Orange, N.J., and worked for many years at Monroe Calculating Co. She married Gerald John Fanning April 15, 1950, in Orange. She was active in her church communities in the Archdiocese of Newark at Our Lady Help of Christians and Our Lady of the Valley and, since moving to Maine in 1999, at St. Charles Borromeo, Brunswick. Her family was her greatest love; her kindness and generosity to both family and friends will be her enduring legacy. She is survived by her husband Gerald of Brunswick; and five sons, Gerald A. Fanning of Belmar, N.J., Patrick Fanning of Livingston, N.J., Victor Fromm and his wife, Lilly of W. Hartford, Conn., William Fromm and his wife, Beth of Campbell, Calif., and Austin Fanning of Cedar Grove, N.J., five daughters, Maureen Fanning of Millburn, N.J., Sheila Venard and her husband, Bob of Harpswell, Karen O'Hare and her husband, Peter of Winchester, Va., Muriel Anne Fanning of Randolph, N.J., and Eileen Fanning of West Orange, N.J.; a sister, Natalie and her husband, Thomas F. Sautter II of Carlisle, Pa., and their loving children, Carole Hely, Kathleen Thomas, Mary Beth Herbert, Thomas Sautter III and Patrice Sautter; and nine grandchildren, Kristin Miyagashima, Lauren O'Hare, Jacqueline O'Hare Stevens, Kaitlin Fromm, Ryan Fanning, Matthew Fanning, Sean Fanning, Emma Venard and Erin Venard. She was predeceased by a daughter, Joanne Fanning; two brothers, John and Austin Erickson; and a nephew Daniel Sautter. Friends may visit from 5-7 p.m. on Friday at Brackett Funeral Home, 29 Federal St., Brunswick. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday at St. Charles Borromeo Church, McKeen Street, Brunswick. Interment will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 6, at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 225 Ridgedale Ave., E. Hanover, N.J. A 'Tribute' of her life may be viewed at www.brackettfuneralhome.com.
