Nancy Blanchard Obituary
PORTLAND - Nancy S. Blanchard, 64, of Portland, passed away in Gorham on March 20, 2018. She was born on Feb. 22, 1954, in Portland, to Robert N. and Barbara A. (Anderson) Steele.
She fought a courageous four-year battle with lung and brain cancer.
Nancy grew up in Cape Elizabeth, and graduated from Cape High School in 1972.
She worked as a legal secretary at the law firm of Norman, Hanson & DeTroy, before retiring in 2015.
Nancy enjoyed many hobbies. She loved crafting, thrifting, knitting and creating. She was passionate about dogs, especially Cocker Spaniels. Her sense of humor was legendary, and her kindness to others unparalleled. Above all, she loved her family.
She was predeceased by her husband, David E. Blanchard, in 2010. Nancy is survived by her son, Geoffrey K. Blanchard, of Portland; her sisters, Linda Hartwell of New Hampshire and Kristina Knight (Randy) of South Carolina; her loving companion, David M. O'Connor, of Portland; and many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses who cared for her during her illness. A special thank you to the wonderful people at the Gorham House who became like family. She was very close to her classmates from high school who generously shared their time comforting her during her illness.
Visitation will be held Saturday, March 24, 2018, from 11 a.m.-noon at Hobbs Funeral Home, 671 U.S. Route 1, Scarborough, followed by a memorial service at noon. Online condolences may be expressed at: www.hobbsfuneralhome.com.

My beautiful Sisti I miss you so very much. I talk to you (out loud) all the time to the point my sanity is in question. Just kidding about that part. I continue all I can do to be supportive to Geoff. He lives an hour from us in SC so we see him often. All is well. Know you are missed. I feel your presence and that is comforting but doesn´t replace the plans we shared. Thank you for being a guardian angel to so many. Give my love to family and friends. There's a time early in the morning I hear the sound of a small plane flying overhead. For some reason it makes me think of Nancy. The sound is a lonely sound and then I think to myself "I can't believe she is gone." It's not that we spent much time together in later years but I have lots of fond memories of her and her family. Nancy was a special gal and is dearly missed everyday by all who knew her.

Dear Sisty Nancy, You were always such a sweet girl. I was so excited about the prospect of having a baby sister. When you were born, as often as I could I would stop on my way home from school to pick up a toy to bring you. You grew up to be a great sister and a wonderful mother and friend to Geoff. How do I sum up 60 years of friendship on one page. No matter how long we were out of touch we would just pick up where we left off. I will remember her laugh, smile and beauty. Nancy fought the good fight and never gave up. She will remain in my heart forever. I found a short passage that sounded like Nancy.

I have known Nancy since she was 9 years old. Over the years we have had some special times together. Her seriousness about life coupled with her sense of humor made her a unique friend. Knowing we cannot connect in this world again touches me deeply. She will be missed. I hope our talks about the possibilities beyond this life are now confirmed in her new life where there this no mourning or weeping or death. Before Nancy's illness took an irreversible turn for the worse, she was excited about moving to SC and buying a new house. But God had other plans. She has been moved into a totally new dimension where even now she is probably busy exploring that mansion God made especially for her.

My deepest sympathy to all who loved Nancy. I met her when she communicated basically with those beautiful eyes. I soon discovered what a sweet and gracious lady she was. Our relationship was short, but I know she will be missed by all who knew her. Nancy was fortunate to have such a caring family and loving partner.
