Narcisse Kasongo Obituary

Narcisse Yuma Kasongo, 15
PORTLAND -- Narcisse was the first son of Oy Manga and Guy Kasongo Judex.
Narcisse was born on May 20, 1996, in Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. He grew up in Bridgeport, Conn., and just recently moved to Portland with his mother Oy a few months ago.
Narcisse was an outstanding high school student at Bullard Haven Technical School in Bridgeport where he was participating in various sports activities such as basketball and American football.
His ambition to become an electrical engineer was cut short by the sudden drowning in a swimming pool on Tuesday, June 5, 2011, in Portland.
Narcisse was a prospect student of Portland High School. Upon his arrival in Maine, he attended the basketball trials at Portland High School where he was scheduled to play a basketball game last Wednesday.
A polite, soft spoken and a lovable member in the community, Narcisse had a respect for everyone. He will be greatly missed. He precedes his mother Oy, father Judex; elder sister Lauren, young sister Nelly, and his beloved young brother Enoch. Narcisse Yuma Kasongo was 15 years old when he answered God's call on July 5, 2011.
May His Soul Rest in Eternal Peace.

Narcisse, as I always called him, was like my second son. I had the pleasure of getting to know him when he and my son De'Von became friends at Read school. He was a special young man. He will be missed greatly. May God continue to grant you peace.

Yuma was an hardworking amiable student who brought a unique sense of humor to my homeroom and science class. His presence will be missed but his memory will always be cherished.

My thoughts and prayers go out to all of Yuma's family. He was an extraodinary person with so much light and love to offer the world. With the type of person he was, the possiblities in his life would have been endless. The world is a dimmer place without him. I am honored to have had you as a student at Read School and I will never forget you.

I did not know him, but I pray the GOD of all mercy will comfort his family.

Yuma was always a special student to teach. He was so polite and helpful. I'll never forget driving him to a basketball game and listening to him tell stories of his family. I know he loved them and wanted to do well for his family. He was a hard-working kid and I hope he is shining down and watching over us.

Yuma will in our thoughts and prayers. I had the opportunity to teach Yuma and coach him in the 8th grade. He was well liked by both his teachers and peers. He was a hard worker in both the classroom and on the basketball court. He will be missed.
