Paul Martin Obituary
WINTHROP - Paul D. Martin, 76, of Winthrop, passed away on Saturday, May 2, 2015, at Maine General Hospital in Augusta, after an extended illness. He was born in Biddeford on April 7, 1939, the son of Thomas A. and Fernande L'Heureux Martin. He was educated in Biddeford schools, graduated from the former St. Louis High School in 1957, and attended Hartford Business School in Hartford, Conn.
Mr. Martin served with the US Navy from 1957 to 1959. On April 4, 1959, he married Rachel LaJeunesse at St. Joseph Church in Biddeford.
After being discharged from the US Navy, he moved to Connecticut where he worked as manager for the Hartford Country Club in Hartford, Conn., the Farmington Country Club in Farmington, Conn., the Ellington Ridge Country Club in Ellington, Conn., and the Chatham Country Club in Chatham, N.J. He also worked in the food/sales management industry as sales manager for PYAMonarch/JP Food Service in Hartford, Conn., and Smith and Fazzina in East Hartford, Conn., retiring in 1997. In retirement, he returned to Biddeford, and finally settled in Winthrop.
Paul was a loving father, son, brother and uncle, with a passion for golf, football and the state of Maine.
He was predeceased by a niece, Judy Larose of Ellington, Conn. Surviving are one daughter Kim Martin of Corolla, N.C., one son Chris Martin of Washington, DC; one brother Donald Martin and his wife Carole of Biddeford, two sisters Constance Larose and her husband Raymond of Ellington, Conn., Betty Ribaudo and her husband Frank of Painfield, Conn.; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 8, 2015, at 1 p.m. at Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford. To share condolences online, please visit
