Philip Clancy Obituary

Philip Gregory Clancy
PORTLAND --Philip Gregory Clancy of Yarmouth died unexpectedly June 6, 2007. He was the husband of Elna Myers Clancy; father of Mark (Sherry) Clancy, Kevin (Michele) Clancy, and Kathleen (William) Walsh; and the loving grandfather to seven grandchildren.
Phil was born Feb. 13, 1932, in Portland, the only son of Helena Duff and Eugene L. Clancy. He graduated from Portland High School and Portland Junior College, where he played basketball and baseball. Phil was a point guard in the Y basketball league and pitcher for Cheverus and Portland High. After transferring from Cheverus to Portland, Phil was ineligible to play, so Coach Hadlock appointed him assistant baseball coach. Playing for the Twilight league he was an All-Star pitcher and twice pitcher of the year. He also played for the Boston Braves during spring training and played minor league with the Peterboro Pete's in Ontario. Phil ended his baseball career playing with the Yarmouth Townies from 1961- 1965. Phil coached Babe Ruth in Yarmouth for three years and also coached the Senior League, which won three championships in a row. He coached the Yarmouth All-Star team for three years. Phil also enjoyed basketball in high school and college and once played against the Harlem Globetrotters.
He worked as an advertising salesman for the Press Herald and was a salesman and Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Locke Office Products and Walsh Brothers in Tucson, Ariz. He enjoyed being a driver for Hertz in his retirement. Phil also loved a good game of golf, enjoyed both Maine and Arizona and had a love for many, especially his family.
Please share your memories with us at a celebration of his life at Val Halla Golf & Recreation Center, Val Halla Road, Cumberland on Monday, June 11, 2007, from 4-6 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, if you wish send donations to the Salvation Army, Boys Club or YMCA Portland in Phil's name.

Sincerest Sympathy.

I met Phil in 1980 through the office products industry. Over many years of business and golf at Val Halla knew Phil as a man of is word, and a class gentleman.

Dear Kate, Bill, Clancy and Owen,
Frank and I send you our deepest compassion on the loss of your father (grandfather). We are grateful that we were able to meet him and enjoy his company in Boothbay last summer, at the summer cottage and at my brother Billy's Lobsterfest in Maine. Both your dad and mom seemed so happy and really enjoyed all the lobster and steak at the party! Wonderful memories like that will always be with you all for the time that you shared together. You are all in our prayers.
