Rachel Whitney McCarthy, 17
    CAPE ELIZABETH -- Rachel W. McCarthy, 17, of Cape Elizabeth, died Sunday, April 15, 2007, at a Portland hospital.
     Rachel was born in Portland, the daughter of Jonathan Edward McCarthy and Laura J. Palanza. She was a junior at Cape Elizabeth High School.
     Rachel had an infectious smile and was the eternal optimist. She enjoyed watching movies with friends. She could sing and loved to perform skits to entertain, especially for family and friends. She enjoyed working with children at a local daycare and the elderly at the Village Crossing.
     She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
     She was predeceased by Lawrence Bourassa.
     She is survived by her mother, Laura Palanza and husband Peter of Cape Elizabeth, stepbrother Joseph Palanza and stepsister Donna Palanza, both of Germantown, Tenn.; father Jonathan McCarthy and wife Ann-Marie of Windham, and stepbrother Clay Bolduc of Windham; grandparents Bradley and Nancy Perkins of Cornish, John and Barbara McCarthy of Portage, Ohio, Roiann and Stuart Twitchell of Bethel, and Gisele Bourassa of Lewiston; aunts and uncles, Martha Perkins, Melissa Perkins, Benjamin Perkins, Marcia Stetson, Steven McCarthy, and Cathy Green; along with many cousins.
     Visiting hours will be held from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, April 19, 2007, at the Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Rd., South Portland. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, April 20, 2007, at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church in Scarborough. Interment will be private at a later date.
