SCARBOROUGH -- Raymond B. Harriman, 92, of Scarborough, formerly of Cape Elizabeth and Rome, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011, in Scarborough.
Mr. Harriman was born in Cape Elizabeth, the son of Ira Howard and Grace Florence Davis. He was educated in the Cape Elizabeth schools and a graduate of Cape Elizabeth and North Eastern Business College.
He was a longtime employee for the Rigby Railroad Yard in South Portland as a car inspector.
During WWII he served in the Army Medical Corps as a driver. While he was in Italy, he had the honor of being the driver for General Dwight D. Eisenhower on several occasions.
His hobbies included gardening, fishing and hunting. He had many vegetable gardens during his life in Cape Elizabeth and Rome. His favorite fishing and hunting area was at the forks in Maine.
Predeceasing him was his wife, Christine P. Harriman in 2004; and three brothers, Winslow D., Howard L. and Archie W. Harriman. Surviving are a brother, Walter L. Harriman of Costa Mesa, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Alice Harriman of Circleville, Ohio; many nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and nephews.
There will be no visiting hours. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012, at Brooklawn Memorial Park, Portland Arrangements are by the Hobbs Funeral Home. Online condolences may be expressed at www.hobbsfuneralhome.com.
