Richard Gagne Obituary

Richard L. Gagne, 64
     BRUNSWICK -- Richard L. Gagne, 64, of Union St., died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2008, at Winship Green Nursing Center in Bath.
     He was born in Brunswick on Oct. 22, 1943, the son of Camille E. and Laurence Theberge Gagne. He was educated in St. John's Elementary School and graduated from Brunswick High School in 1965.
     Richard was a paper carrier for the Brunswick Record as a youth. He later worked at Jay Brush in Brunswick and for 28 years for the Brunswick School Department at Coffin School and Brunswick High School, retiring in 1998. He was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church where he served as Eucharistic Minister, CYO, Altar Server and Coordinator of Altar Servers, headed security at the annual Bazaar for many years, as well as many other activities at the church. He was a member of the Brunswick Lodge of Elks, and was a 4th Degree member of the Brunswick Knights of Columbus, was Captain of their Honor Guard, and was actively involved in the Knights both at the local and state level.
     He was involved in the Miss Brunswick Teen Queen Pageant for many years. Among his many awards and achievements, he received the National Catholic Education Association's Distinguished Graduate Award in 2004. He enjoyed candlepin bowling and was a member of the Senior Citizens, Knights of Columbus, and Brunswick School Dept. bowling leagues.
     Surviving are four brothers, Eugene H. Gene Gagne, Louis M. Gagne and his wife Ann, and Omer Z. Gagne, all of Brunswick, and Camille L. Gagne and his wife Charlene of Topsham; three nieces, a nephew; a grandniece and grandnephew; and several aunts and uncles in Canada.
     Visiting hours will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Friday at Demers-Desmond Funeral Home, 34 Cushing St. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John the Baptist Church. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery in the spring.
    Memorial contributions may be made to either the Knights of Columbus Scholarship Fund
    or St. John's School
