PORTLAND - Richard S. Pickford Jr., 77, passed away at the Gosnell Hospice in Scarborough after a brief illness on Nov. 24, 2015. Born in Astoria, New York City, on March 7, 1938, Richard served in the U.S. Air Force as Airman 3rd Class. He then worked in retail as a Regional Loss Prevention Analyst at Caldor department stores for over 25 years, residing in Chelmsford, Mass. Richard was an avid photographer and took first place in a Chelmsford Art Society July 4th Art Festival. After retirement, he moved to Portland in 2001 and worked part-time at the UPS Store in Portland. He volunteered at Partners for World Health and was an officer of the Maples Condominium Association for many years. He enjoyed reading, bird watching, and boating on Wadleigh Pond.
He leaves his wife Susan and his son Richard, both of Portland; and his son John and wife Lisa, and two grandchildren, Lucy Jane and Charles Christopher, of Brunswick; a brother Edward and wife Pam, of Orono; five sisters; and many nieces and nephews.
Interment will be private.

Richard was my next door neighbor. I moved a few months before his passing. He and Susan were incredible neighbors! He was so generous with his time at our condo association. I always loved running into him in the parking lot, he would leave me laughing! I loved getting his insightful emails! He will be missed by all.
