Rita L. Farda, 63
ARUNDEL -- Rita L. Farda, 63, of Arundel, formerly of Biddeford, died peacefully on Wednesday, June 22, 2011, with her family at her side. She was born on Dec. 6, 1947, in Portland, the daughter of Ernest and Arlene (Bean) Fields. She graduated from Windham High School in 1966.
On March 17, 1967, she married Thomas F. Farda in Gorham.
Rita last worked with Shape Technology of Kennebunk for over 18 years, until retiring in 1998 for medical reasons. Previously she worked as a secretary with Unum, formerly Union Mutual, from 1965 to 1970.
She enjoyed her many camping trips with her family and vacationing at the lake. She loved reading, especially Harlequin romance novels. An avid Red Sox fan, it was a family delight as she hounded her husband, Tom, about being a Yankees fan.
Overall, she is remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother and homemaker, always ready to drop anything to help her children and grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a son, Donald S. Farda; and a brother, Ernest Fields. Rita is survived by her husband of 44 years, Thomas F. Farda of Arundel, formerly Biddeford; four sons, Michael E. Farda and his wife Michelle of Lyman, Thomas J. Farda and his fiancee Gardie Smith of Buxton, Joseph T. Farda and his companion Lisa Reitan of Dayton, David S. Farda of Arundel; one brother, John Fields of Saco; one half-brother, Raymond Webber of Limerick; three sisters, Linda Bernhesiel and her husband Steve of Wells, Virginia Attack of Wyoming, Darlene Fields of Gray; three grandchildren, Courtney and Emily Farda and Nicholas Boutin; and several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday (TODAY), June 24, 2011, at Hope Memorial Chapel. A funeral service will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday the funeral home. Burial will follow in Scarborough Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements are by Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford. To share condolences online, please visit www.HopeMemorial.com.
