CAPE ELIZABETH -- Robert F. Hannigan, 88, of Cape Elizabeth, passed away peacefully at his home in Cape Elizabeth on Oct. 2, 2014.
He was born in Melrose, Mass., to Daniel and Mary Hannigan. Robert attended Portland public schools, Cheverus High School, and was a graduate of the University of Maine School of Law.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as member of the Occupational Forces in Japan.
He was an attorney at law, and worked in the real estate industry for years.
His hobbies included 'going to camp' and enjoying all types of outdoor activities with family and friends. Bob was an active member of the Cape Elizabeth Lions Club for over 50 years and participated in district and international activities.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Francis and William Hannigan and a sister, Marie Patch. Surviving is his wife of 65 years, Janet S. Hannigan of Cape Elizabeth; three daughters, Kathleen M. O'Donnell and her husband Mark of South Portland, Julia A. Hannigan-Trefethen and husband Keith of Wells, Susan Thurston and her husband Fuzzy of Fryeburg, seven sons, Michael E. and his wife Betty of Abington, Mass., Frank M. and his wife Theresa of Cape Elizabeth, Stephen C. of Standish, Daniel J. of Cape Elizabeth, Robert F. Jr. and his wife Karen of South Portland, Peter S. and his wife Cathy of Portland, Patrick J. of Cape Cod, Mass.; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2014, at 10 a.m., at St. Bartholmew Parish, 8 Two Lights Rd., Cape Elizabeth. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery. Arrangements made by Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Rd., South Portland. On-line condolences may be shared at www.hobbsfuneralhome.com.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Roger Inhorn and his staff at the oncology unit, Mercy Hospital, Fore River.
