Robert John Tancredi
PORTLAND -- Robert John Tancredi died unexpectedly on Sept. 7, 2011.
Bob was an entrepreneur, stockbroker, poet, writer, musician and student of Objectivism.
He attended the University of Maine, Boston University, and received his undergraduate degree from Hunter College, and his master's in History from NYU.
He served in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged after his term of service.
He lived for 25 years in Manhattan. During that time he bar-tended until he purchased a restaurant which he and his wife, Sharon, named 'Buster's Crabhouse.'
After their days as a restaurateurs they moved to Portland. Bob accepted a position with Smith Barney. He developed his career as a stock broker during his years in Portland, working for the past number of years at Harborview Investments.
He was active in Portland Commerce Exchange, he was a former member and officer of the Portland Club, former member of the Cumberland Club and Purpoodock Country Club.
Bob relished his days at the beach, biking with his cherished wife, Sharon, and of late, kayaking with Sharon and other loved family members. He was working on a novel, he has written much poetry. He played the guitar and piano.
Bob loved life, in all its dimensions. He is missed more than can be expressed.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Ash Tancredi; his sister, Nancy Tancredi of Beals; nephew Robert Edward Sapiro and wife Eleanor Mitten of Cambridge, Mass., nieces Emily Tancredi- Brice-Agbenyega and husband Tsiri Agbenyega of Philadelphia, Pa., Connie Tancredi-Brice of London, UK; grandnieces and nephews, Elizabeth and Peter Sapiro-Mitten, and Kirsten and Rachel Agbenyega; brother- in-law, Stephen Silverman and wife Cathy Smith of New York, N.Y.; nephew Brad Silverman and wife Lisa; godchildren, Jake and Jenna of Tampa, Fla.; and niece Melinda Perez and husband David and children Lauren and Eric of Long Beach, Calif. He is the son of Aniello Tancredi and Constance Moore Tancredi, both deceased.
Services will be held on Friday, Sept. 9, 2011, at 12 p.m., at Congregation Bet Ha'am, 81 Westbrook St., South Portland, followed by interment at Temple Beth El Memorial Park, 1 Johnson Rd., Portland. All are invited to return to Bet Ha'am for refreshments. The family will observe Shiva on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011, at 7:30 p.m., and on Sunday, Sept. 11, 2011, at 3 p.m., at the Tancredi home, 21 Fairway Drive, Scarborough. Arrangements by The Jewish Funeral Home, Portland.

To Bob: Hail the Victorious Dead! To his loved ones, family and friends, I grieve with thee. I just met Bob in person at OCON, and was hoping to see him at some of our Greater Boston O'ist Club meetings, the first of which was to happen on Sunday 9/18. What a sad loss!
