Rodger R. Douglass, 73
GORHAM -- Rodger R. Douglass, 73, of Gorham, died on Sunday, Oct. 5, 2014, at Maine Medical Center in Portland.
He was born in Lima, Ohio, the son of the late Raymond and Ruth (McBeth) Douglass. Rodger was educated in Lima, graduating from Lima Senior High School in 1959. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served his country from 1963 until 1969. Rodger was honorably discharged in 1969 with rank of CT2. Following his time in the service, he furthered his education at The Ohio State University at Lima.
Rodger managed many restaurants in Ohio, Florida, and Maine and was currently working at the Portland Jetport. While in Maine, he was the beverage manager at the Village Cafe for 17 years. Rodger enjoyed cooking, good wine and plays. He was also one who the supported the Animal Refuge League in Westbrook where most recently, he adopted his dog, Stanley and two cats.
He shared 13 years of commitment to his domestic partner, David Jose Simpson of Gorham
He is also survived by three brothers, Richard Douglass and wife Diane, Gregory Douglass and wife Janine, and Thomas Beery, all of Lima, Ohio; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be sadly missed by a close friend, Marianne Cioffi-Otenti. Rodger was predeceased by his father, Raymond Douglass and wife Ruth Lippincott and by his mother, Ruth (McBeth) Beery and husband Paul Beery.
