SOUTH PORTLAND -- Stephen 'Unk' G. Emerton, 55, of South Portland, died Friday, March 5, 2010, at his residence.
Stephen was born Aug. 30, 1954, in South Portland, the son of Joseph and Isabelle 'Peavey' Emerton where he was educated in South Portland schools. Stephen joined the United States Army and served until his honorable discharge.
Stephen worked most of his life on the Commercial Waterfront on many Gill Netting Boats throughout Portland Harbor. He loved to be at sea but loved his family more and could not wait to be back home with them.
He was predeceased by his parents; brothers Raymond, John, Jim Emerton; and nephews Joey Vayo and Scott Emerton. Survivors include his daughter Beth Hebert of Connecticut; sisters Cindy Emerton of South Portland, Bonnie Edgecomb of Fort Myers, Fla.; many nieces and nephews that he truly loved; along with many, many extended family members and great friends.
A visiting hour will be held from 2-3 p.m. on Friday, March 12, at the Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Rd., South Portland, with a family remembrance at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be private at sea at a later date.

Steve, you will surely be missed by SO many! You were & will always be SO loved by everyone who knew you! My grandkids(your 2 nieces, Cassie & Wrendysue as well as your nephew Dustin) will forever miss you! You always had a wonderful heart Steve; that's what I will remember!
