Timothy Hussey Obituary

Timothy B. Hussey, 59
KENNEBUNK - Timothy B. Hussey of Kennebunk passed away on Monday at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, surrounded by his family. Just 11 days shy of 60, Tim had spent the previous two years living and learning with mucosal melanoma, a rare form of cancer.
Tim was a lifelong Mainer, community and business leader, and incredible father and husband. The first child of Martha D. and Philip W. Hussey Jr., Tim was born in Biddeford on June 24, 1956. He grew up in Kennebunkport, attended Kennebunk High School, graduated from Colby College, and received his M.B.A. from Cornell University.
For nearly 40 years, Tim dedicated his career to Hussey Seating Company in North Berwick. He stepped into the role of president in 1995, becoming the sixth generation to lead a business that began as a small plow manufacturer in 1835. Tim led and grew the company while maintaining their longstanding values of honesty, integrity, and caring for people.
Tim's commitment to his work was paralleled only by his commitment to his community, and he was tireless in his support of numerous organizations and causes. In addition to his family's longstanding support for the United Way of York County, he chaired the Maine Economic Growth Council and served on the Federal Reserve Bank Advisory Council and the boards of the Maine Development Foundation, the Davis Family Foundation, Bank North, and the Dead River Company. He was a graduate of Leadership Maine and a member of the Young Presidents Organization and the World Presidents Organization. He also served as commodore of the Arundel Yacht Club and was a member of the Portland Yacht Club and South Congregational Church.
Tim believed in each person's potential and was passionate about education. Locally, he served on the R.S.U. 21 school board and was a founding member of the Education Foundation of the Kennebunks and Arundel. Additionally, he chaired the board of Educate Maine, sat on the boards of Colby College and the Maine Compact for Higher Education, and was inducted into the Junior Achievement Hall of Fame in 2013.
Tim was happiest when skiing at Sugarloaf and sailing along the coast of Maine with his soulmate and wife of 27 years, Marcia Landry, and their three children, Hannah, Philip, and Olivia.
Most importantly, Tim genuinely connected with all who knew him and made them feel special. He had an instinctive way of bringing out the best in people, and his unshakeable optimism, contagious laugh, and zest for life were truly remarkable. His passion for inspiring others was on full display during the two years following his cancer diagnosis, a time in which he lived life to the fullest, appreciated every moment spent with friends and family, and generously offered his newfound insights to support others in their own journeys.
Tim is survived by his wife and children, Marcia, Hannah, Philip, and Olivia; his mother, Martha; his siblings Anne, Jonathan, and Richard Hussey; and a tightknit web of uncles, aunts, cousins, in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
In lieu of visiting hours, a gathering will be held from 3-7 p.m. on Monday, June 20, at the Pilot House Restaurant, 4 Western Ave., Kennebunk. A celebration of Tim's life will take place at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 21, at Holy Spirit Parish, St. Martha's Church, 30 Portland Rd., Kennebunk, followed by a reception at the Nonantum Resort, Ocean Avenue in Kennebunkport. Arrangements are in care of Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer St., Kennebunk. To share a memory or leave a message of condolence, please visit Tim's Book of Memories Page at: www.bibberfuneral.com

Dear Marcia and the entire Hussey family: I've been one of the lucky people following Tim's blog from the beginning of his diagnosis. The inspiration I drew from Tim's courage and humor through his eloquent and exquisite writing had more to do with his profound love for you all. Bro and I send our deepest condolences and hope that your family finds peace during what we know will be a difficult transition into a world without Tim.

Marcia and Family,
Please accept Roz's and my heart felt condolences. Personally I always looked forward to and enjoyed the times Tim and I visited, primarily comparing notes on business, community and family with a little boating thrown in for good measure. For me as I'm sure for you all and countless others Tim saw to it that he would continue to provide fond memories. RIP My Friend.

Dear Marcia and Family:

I was very sorry to learn of Tim's passing.

I didn't really know Tim, but I remember you, Marcia, from around 30 years ago when you were part of our little "crew" that hung out together in OOB. We used to have a lot of fun together. Very sorry for your loss.

I live in Ma. now, so if you would like to get in touch, my email is: [email protected]

Take care:

Tim Winn

Deepest sympathies to Marcia, Hannah, Philip and Olivia as you grieve the loss of your beloved husband and father. And also to the Hussey team as you adjust to the loss of your steady and caring leader.
