Virginia Heinig Obituary

Virginia L. Heinig, 88 BRUNSWICK -- Virginia L. Heinig, 88, died rather suddenly Friday, Feb. 27, 2009, at Mid Coast Hospital, Brunswick. She was born Jan. 5, 1921, in Los Angeles, Calif., the daughter of Matthew and Louise Bunch Hennes. She was a graduate of Beverly Hills High School, later attending UCLA studying interior design. In 1946 she and her family moved to Palm Springs. She married Horst Heinig in Los Angeles in 1948. Mr. Heinig died Jan. 19, 1989. Shortly after their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Heinig lived briefly in New Orleans before moving to Puerto Rico where they lived for 22 years followed by a move to Marco Island, Fla. in 1971. Mrs. Heinig moved to Brunswick in 2006 and was a resident at Sunnybrook Village. While in Puerto Rico, she was active in the Navy League, served as a cub scout Den Mother, and volunteered to help provide arts and crafts opportunities to the mentally ill. In Florida, she volunteered her time as a member of Women's Club and Welcome Wagon, a branch of the Civic League. She was an avid tennis and bridge player, an accomplished Latin dancer, and talented artist working with oils, watercolors, and silk screens. She was a wonderful cook and loved to garden. While in Florida, she was especially proud of her rose gardens. She cherished her family and her many friendships she developed everywhere she lived. She was predeceased by her brother, Matthew Hennes Jr. She is survived by her son, Christopher Heinig and his wife Anne of Harpswell; two granddaughters, Anneliese Heinig of Richmond, Grace Heinig of Portland; a great- granddaughter, Lyndsay Grace Heinig of Richmond; nieces, nephews, and cousins. Friends and family may visit Sunday, March 8, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Brackett Funeral Home, 29 Federal St., Brunswick. For those unable to attend, condolences can be expressed at www.brackettfuneralhome.com. Interment will take place later this spring next to her husband in Hillcrest Cemetery, Harpswell. Virginia L.
