Benjamin H. McCulloch, Jr. age 87, of Berwyn, PA died on April 22, 2013 from complications after a fall. He was born in Bluefield, West Virginia on November 15, 1925, the only son of Benjamin H. and Emma Millet McCulloch. Ben was Vice President of the Corporate Finance Group at Girard Bank, now Bank of New York Mellon, from 1967-1981. He was a 40-year member of the Waynesborough Country Club in Paoli, PA. After graduating from Charleston (West Virginia) High School in 1942, Ben enlisted in the US Navy when he was 17-years old. He was selected for the Navy V-12 Officer Training Program at the University of Richmond and the University of Virginia. From 1943-1946, he fought in the Pacific Theater of Operations, participating in the battle of Okinawa before joining the first wave of forces to occupy Japan after the Japanese surrender in August of 1945. After discharge from the Navy, Ben entered Case Western Reserve in Cleveland, Ohio, graduating in 1948. At his father's request, he attended one year of law school at the University of Virginia 1948-49, before earning an MBA from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, in 1952. Ben loved tennis and skiing, and had a life-long passion for studying business and following financial markets and investments.
