Eileen Horan Obituary

Eileen Veronica (nee Morgan) Horan, beloved wife of 58 years to Kevin Horan and longtime resident of Paoli, PA, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 11, 2022. Born on January 13, 1941, she was the treasured daughter of hard-working Irish immigrant parents, Thomas and Helen Morgan, and sister to brother Thomas Morgan, and sisters Mary Scotto and Catherine Morgan. Eileen grew up in the heyday of 1950’s Brooklyn, NY. Upon graduating from St. Francis Xavier High School, Eileen chose a profession true to her nature, one in service to others. She attended St. Vincent’s Hospital School of Nursing in Manhattan. Graduating in 1962, Eileen became a Registered Nurse and Operating Room Supervisor. In the early days of her career, she met the love of her life, Kevin, at a St. John’s University dance. They married on September 14, 1963, and four children soon followed, Kevin Jr., Brian, Patricia, and Susan. Eileen will be remembered for her keen intellect and quick wit. A walking Bartlett’s Familiar Quotations, she often quipped the wisdom of Benjamin Franklin (“A penny saved is a penny earned.”) and St. Jerome (“Good, better, best. Never let it rest. ‘Til your good is better and your better is best.”) among others. Hard work was a persistent theme. She loved cross word puzzles and current affairs, reading a book on the beach, and listening to Sinatra on Sundays. She could easily whip up a dinner party for thirty, and on special occasions she enjoyed drinking a sweet Manhattan. Eileen continued her career as a nurse specializing in ophthalmology, and throughout her life she was the first person friends and family would turn to if someone was sick. In this way, she will be remembered chiefly for her generosity of spirit and kindness. Eileen was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. In addition to Kevin Sr., Eileen is survived by her four children and eight grandchildren. Kevin Horan, Jr., his wife Katie, and their three daughters Kelly, Brigid, and Moira, all of Chatham, NJ; Brian Horan, his three children Brian, Colleen, and Shane, all of Raleigh, NC; Patty Horan Murphy, her husband Jeff, and their two sons Max and Jake, all of Greenwich, CT; and Susan Horan Parker of Raleigh, NC. Eileen is also survived by her sister, Catherine Morgan of New York City, and her niece, Donna Scotto of Brooklyn, NY. A celebration of Eileen’s life will be held on Saturday, February 19. A viewing will be held from 9:00am until 11:00am at St. Norbert Church, 50 Leopard Road, Paoli, PA 19301, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am. As a reflection of Eileen’s faith and service to St. Norbert Church, the family requests memorial contributions be made in Eileen’s honor to St. Norbert’s.

Eileen was "Aunt Eileen" to me and my 2 older sisters. Though she was not related to us biologically or even from marriage, she was such a close friend of my mother's that we referred to her as our Aunt. My memories of her include her heart warming smile and contagious laughter. She will be missed dearly.
