Joan R. Calhoun

Joan R. Calhoun (nee Read, Mrs. John V. Calhoun, Jr.) 90, on April 24, 2018 died at Beaumont at Bryn Mawr, pre-deceased by her husband John and survived by daughters Laurie R. of Washington D.C. and Amy R. of Devon, PA. A graduate of the Sidwell Friends School and Salem College, Joan grew up in Chevy Chase, MD before moving to Philadelphia when she married. She was a member of the Wayne Presbyterian church, the Martin’s Dam Club, the Merion Cricket Club, and the West Philadelphia Women’s Committee for the Philadelphia Orchestra, and was a former member of the Cosmopolitan Club, and St. David’s Golf Club. An avid cook with a love for music, her involvement as chairwoman of The Philadelphia Orchestra Cookbook brought her great joy and lifelong friendships, as well as a repertoire of excellent recipes. A memorial service will be held at Beaumont at Bryn Mawr, 601 North Ithan Ave., Bryn Mawr, PA on May 24th, at 2:30 PM. Interment will be private.
