Mary Needham Moore

1934 - 2023

Mary Needham Moore, a nursing professor and resident of Merion and Wynnewood and recently of Glen Mills passed away on January 4th at Beth Israel Hospital Boston at the age of 88. Dr. Moore is survived by her beloved children John Moore (Angela), Jennifer Foley (the late Brian), David Moore, and Bradford Moore, her grandchildren: Lauren Kearney, MD (James) and Rebecca Moore; Brendan Foley and Matthew Foley; Leah Moore; Caroline Moore, MD, Samantha Moore, and Jeremey Moore, and her great-grandchildren Avery and Paige Kearney. Past adored family canines included three Golden Retrievers and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Dr. Moore was born in Cambridge MA and spent her formative years in Massachusetts. In 1952 she graduated from Milton Academy and was presented at the Debutante Cotillion in Boston. She completed her baccalaureate nursing degree at Bates College, received a Master's in Education from Saint Joseph University, and a Nursing Master's and PhD from the University of Pennsylvania. Mary taught in university nursing programs at the University of Pennsylvania, Widener University, the University of Virginia, and the College of New Rochelle, and was dedicated to the advancement of nursing science and student advocacy. She also served as a member of several USAID - sponsored interdisciplinary teams focusing on rehabilitation in post-war Vietnam (Hanoi, DaNang, and Saigon). Further international contributions included workshops on graduate nursing education presented in Moscow and St. Peterburg Russia. Mary was a talented shopper, needlepoint stitcher, and lover of antique furniture and Staffordshire dogs. She enjoyed travel, close friendships, classical music, reading, bridge, crossword puzzles, and Nantucket vacations. The loving and meaningful support of immediate family members and the kindness of the Keane family members were special blessings in Mary's life. Services were private. The interment will be held in North Kingston, Rhode Island. Donations in her honor can be made to the animal rescue charity of your choice.
