It will be five years since Steve passed and I still think of him a lot. What a smart, kind soul he was. Our world needed him. I hope he is at peace and his good energy is somewhere else having an impact.

I was just speaking with Steve last week, about adopting a dog from MLAR. We had a long talk about fate and how each animal he helped had a life story. You could hear the compassion and calmness in his voice when he talked about the animals; you sensed this was his passion. I will pray for strength for his family, friends and coworkers.

Steve was a bright spot in everyone's day. His warm, loving , gentle manner enriched every person and every animal lucky enough to meet and interact with him. Steve was a treasure. May Steve's family know that they will always have the support of the MLAR family.

Steve was a very caring and compassionate person which was evident no matter how well you knew him. One thing we knew for sure, he loved animals. MLAR and the animals lost a great advocate and friend and he will be truly missed. Condolences to Nancy and the entire Heck family. RIP Steve.

Steve's inner spirit attracted those that needed it the most. From the first time I met Steve when he came to volunteer, we witnessed his calm drawing cats with the most need to him, as he provided a peace they were yearning for. His physical presence will be greatly missed yet I know his energy is there for the animals.

Steve was truly one of the most gentle and kind men I have ever met. I so enjoyed watching him interact with the animals and seeing how excited they were to be with him. RJ, one of his favorites, would literally go crazy every time Steve would come out. Steve would lean down and RJ would climb up on him wagging furiously and lick Steve's face. I truly don't know a finer man. He was respectful to everyone and always did the right thing. He reaffirmed my faith in good people. I will miss him dearly!!

Dear Mrs. Heck,
Steve was a wonderful sweet, loving man who loved the animals at MLAR, and was greatly loved in return by them, as well as all the people who work and volunteer there. I am a volunteer there and also adopted my dog from MLAR almost two months ago. Steve was so helpful and kind to me. We will miss him enormously for forever!

Steve was one of the best Ive ever met. He was truly one of a kind. He and I would joke around just like brothers every single day at work and I always see him as the brother I never had. He set the standard for kindness and selflessness. I will forever hold this great man in my heart and strive to show the love and care he did each and every day. I love and miss you always Steve.

I have been associated with MLAR for 10 plus years. I have met many people in the time span and I must say that getting to know Steve and work with him on Saturdays and see how much he loved the animals that came to MLAR hoping to find a forever home. Steve took this on as his mission and did a wonderful job. How blessed we were to have him working with the animals in our care. He is deeply missed and will forever be missed.
