Eric L. "Butch" Mott

1945 - 2023

Eric L. "Butch" Mott, 78, of Alachua, Florida, passed away on October 20, 2023. Born on September 26, 1945, in Valdosta, Georgia. Eric was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

Eric was a man of many qualities. He had a heart of gold and always strived to make the world a better place. Eric believed in giving, and he selflessly donated to charitable organizations such as the Shriners Hospital and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Eric's love for his wife, Ann Mott, was unwavering throughout their 55 years of marriage. He would often surprise her with flowers and teddy bears, demonstrating his deep affection. Eric cherished his children, Brian Mott and Erica Liem, and their spouses, Kelley and David respectively. However, it was his grandchildren, Cody and Julianna, who held a special place in his heart. There is no limit to what Eric would do for them.

Over time, Eric grew closer to God and found solace in his faith. He believed that worship was not confined to the building but rather found in the hearts of the people.

Eric served in the Air Force for four years, proudly defending his country. After his military service, he dedicated 35 years of his life to working at GRU, where he retired as a Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection Systems Manager.

Eric's family was of utmost importance to him. He is survived by his wife, Ann Mott, his children Brian and Erica, their respective spouses, and his grandchildren Cody and Julianna. He is also survived by his three sisters, Libby Thomas (sp. Tom Thomas), Carol Rhine (sp. Nick Rhine); and Bonnie Hurley-Mott. Eric was preceded in death by his father, Pasco Mott, his mother, Louise Mott, and his brother, Larry Mott.

A service honoring Eric's life will be held at 1:00 PM on November 13, 2023, at Milam Funeral and Cremation Services, located at 311 S. Main Street in Gainesville. Following the service, a burial will take place at Forest Meadows Cemetery - Central, situated at 4100 NW 39th Avenue.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to Eric's favorite charities, the Shriners Children's Hospital or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Eric was passionate about supporting organizations that benefit children.
