Bobby Jones Obituary
Bobby G. Jones, a native of Malvern, Arkansas, passed away on September 5. He holds an accounting and an MBA, both from Henderson State University. Jones is a Certified Public Accountant. He was a Distinguished Military Graduate from the Henderson ROTC Department and a four-year letterman on the football team. He retired from the United States Army Reserves in 1997, having attained the rank of Colonel.
After returning from Vietnam in 1973, Jones located in Arkadelphia and worked for a CPA firm and two local financial institutions. In July of 1989, he became Controller for HSU and in January of 1999 was appointed Vice President for Finance and Administration for the institution. In 2011-12, Jones served as Interim President of HSU and returned to the VP of Finance and Administration in July 2012. From August through December 2013, he served as Interim Athletic Director while concurrently serving as VP for Finance and Administration. Jones retired from HSU in 2016.
Jones has served as a board member of the HSU Alumni Association, Arkadelphia Parks and Recreation Commission, Southern Bancorp in Arkadelphia, and the Clark County Industrial Council. He is also past treasurer of the Arkadelphia Homebuilders Association, past board member of the Regional Economic Development Alliance and Area Chamber of Commerce, and a former member of the selection committee for the Reddie Hall of Honor. He was a member of both the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Arkansas Society of Certified Public Accountants. He was a board member of the Arkadelphia Baptist Medical Center, the Arkadelphia Water & Sewer Utilities Committee, the Alcoa Community Advisory Board, and the Sturgis Foundation. Jones was also a member of the HSU Athletic Lettermen's Club and "H" Club and a member of the University Foundation Hearts Club. He was inducted into the Reddie Hall of Honor as well as the HSU School of Business Hall of Honor. In 2006, he was inducted into the University Academy. In 2012, Jones was honored with the Distinguished Alumni Award. He was also serving on the ASU Three Rivers Foundation Board.
He and his wife, Judith Echols Jones, were married in 1970 and have two grown sons, Kevin and Scott. Kevin and Cynthia are parents of Cooper, Emery, Julianna, and Roderick. Scott and Natalie have four sons, Whit (Mary Kate), Jett, Cy, and Cash, and one great-grandson, Jordan Jones.
Bobby and Judy are active members of First Baptist Church in Arkadelphia where he served as a deacon and on many committees.
A family burial will be held on Wednesday, September 10 at Rest Haven Cemetery in Arkadelphia with a memorial service at First Baptist Church in Arkadelphia at 2:00 pm.
A visitation time will be held after the memorial in Fellowship Hall at FBC.
Bobby will lie in state at The Welch Funeral Home Tuesday, September 9, 2025, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM without the family present.
Pallbearers will be Whit Jones, Jett Jones, Cy Jones, Cooper Jones, Cash Cook, and Chris Echols.
Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Strong Hunting Club.
Memorials may be made to the HSU Reddie Club, OBU Gridiron Club, or First Baptist Church in Arkadelphia.
