John William Thornton

1943 - 2016

John William Thornton, age 72 of Malvern, died Saturday, July 9, 2016 at his residence. He was born in Rosboro, Arkansas on December 22, 1943 to the late Bill Thornton and Hattie Hale Thornton. Reared and educated in Glenwood, Arkansas he had lived in Malvern since 1996. He worked for many years as foreman of the asphalt plant at Mid State Construction. John was an avid hunter and fisherman. Over the years he made many friends and was loved dearly by his family. By all accounts, he was considered a Good Man, working hard and doing for others. He was a member of North Malvern Assembly of God Church.
He is survived by his wife, Janice Hudson Thornton, to whom he was married on October 23, 1984; by five daughters, Hayley, Heather, and Lexi Thornton, all of Malvern, Toni Reynolds of North Little Rock, and Tina Morgan of Newport; one sister, Jodi Smith of Prescott; five grandchildren, Niles, Nicole, and Jared Reynolds, Chase Daniels, and Logan Morgan; and by 11 great-grandchildren.
John was also preceded in death by three sisters, Bobbie, Maudine, and Claudine.
His funeral will be at two o'clock Wednesday afternoon, July 13, 2016 in the chapel of J. A. Funk Funeral Home with Brothers Keith Pennington and Tony Burrow officiating. Interment will follow in Alford Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from six until eight o'clock.
Pallbearers will be: Johnny Brown, Terryl Wright, Danny Vaughn, Richard Rodgers, Jerry Knighten, and Emmett Carver.
Honorary pallbearers are nurses of Arkansas Hospice and Dr. Bharany and staff.
