Spencer Adair Obituary

Spencer Gordon Adair went to be with his Lord and Savior on December 26, 2016, at the age of 64, after a very courageous battle with cancer. Loving husband, father and grandfather; he was born on February 27, 1952 in Little Rock, Arkansas, to Elizabeth and Richard Adair. Upon graduation from Little Rock Central High School, he enlisted in the United States army, serving as a Medic from 1971-1973. He later moved to Dallas where he married Loren Payne in 1980, and raised their 3 children. Spencer graduated from the University of Texas at Dallas with a degree in General Business. During his career in the printing industry, he joined Moore Paper Company and Custom Graphics, and then formed Adair Printing & Promotions, Inc. in 1988, serving the DFW area for the past 28 years. He was a member of Watermark Community Church where he served on the security team. He also enjoyed many years of service on the North Dallas Young Life Committee and Northaven Park Neighborhood Association Board.
Spencer was an enthusiastic outdoorsman and hunter, and loved to teach and pass on the love of the
outdoors to others. He is most remembered for his kind and giving nature, quick wit and hilarious personality, and undying love for God, his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Richard Adair, Randy Adair, Ronnie Adair and wife Donna. He is survived by his wife, Loren; daughter Shannon Goodman and her husband Jonathan; son Wiley Adair and his wife Danielle; son Hayden Adair; grandsons Elliot Adair and Miles Adair; sister Deanna Etheridge and her husband Ed; sister Jayne West and her husband Mike; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. The family wishes to thank the staff of Texas Oncology and Mary Crowley Cancer Center for their dedicated and loving care of Spencer. We will forever miss his selfless love and wonderful nature. Visitation will be Thursday, January 5th from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home. Burial will be held at the DFW National Cemetery on January 6th at 11:00 am, followed by a memorial service to celebrate his life at 2:00 pm at the Watermark Community Church chapel, reception following. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Watermark Community Church or any Cancer or other foundation of your choice.

Spencer was my "True Friend" in every sense. So many memories & stories I could tell. The one story I remember most because He told me so many times, is that the moment He laid eyes upon Loren, He knew He was going to marry Her. And then he did, with both of them raising a beautiful Family. Spencer had a revelation one day about his true calling, and He shared with me that it was to provide & protect his family. I miss Spencer greatly as I'm sure his family does. So I pray they find the strength to live their lives with Spencer in spirit, and to know He's Always with them.
In His Name..God Bless

Speedy (or Spencer) was a favorite cousin of mine; fun-loving and a jokester, but also kind & caring. He loved his family and we all loved him back. His smiling face will be greatly missed. Loren & family-you are in my thoughts & prayers.

He was a one-of-a-kind big Brother. You always could count on our "Speedy". He was the actual "real deal", without a doubt...you always got what you saw with him. I could write a book. Spencer was a great friend to our family. We shared many experiences and lots of love and laughter. We had great times at the lake and Colorado. Spencer helped Scott get his first deer, explained the constellations to our girls, and knew every hole in the wall restaurant along the way. We all enjoyed the outdoors, shooting stars at the lake and campfires at the ranch or wherever we were. Spencer was also our protector, remember when he liked to chase the prev away from the park! His unique personality kept us all laughing. We will always cherish these fond memories and know we are better for having know him.

Spencer was a very kind, friendly and caring person. I served on the NPNA board for just over 2 years as a Section Direction for Sec 1 and that is where I met and grew to know Spencer. He is a great loss to our world, community and his friends and family but is now without pain and with our Lord.

What a blessing it was to be able to call Spencer my friend. He was an original! He and I always enjoyed swapping hunting stories. His love for the outdoors was always evident. His mixture of humor and sincerity made him a person people wanted to be around. He was a good man and I will miss him deeply.

Spencer was always so much fun to be around. To say he will be missed is such an understatement. My family was truly blessed to call him our friend.

Most knew my uncle as Spencer. I was one of the lucky few that got to know him as Speedy. Speedy has always been my favorite uncle. As a teenager, I loved it anytime he was around myself and any of my friends because we laughed so hard at him. We didn't laugh WITH him, we laughed AT him. He was one of the most funny people. As a kid, it's a true joy to see an adult that still acts like a kid. I'll always remember Speedy's AMAZING sense of style. His crocs and sports coat were a very stylish combo! We love our Speedy so much and can't quite comprehend how he can be gone. We Love you Loren, Shannon, Wylie, and Hayden.

Spencer loved his family so much including our son Jonathan. He was also so supportive to him and welcoming to our family. Spencer's laid back demeanor, kindness, faithfulness, and fun will be missed. He was a role model for us all. Loren, Shannon, Jonathan, Wylie, Danielle, Hayden, we will continue to pray for you as you go through this difficult time.. Paul, Nancy, Abby Goodman

Loren, I wanted to share something with you that happened shortly after joining our community group through Watermark. I made a list of everyone in our group along with addresses and phone numbers. Shortly after meeting both of you, I was trying to call someone in the group, but called Spencer by mistake. He answered very enthusiastically and said "What's up, honey. How are you?"(Those are the words I seem to remember). He was so nice and sweet to me and we talked for about 10 minutes. I was so impressed that he took the time to talk to me when he was probably working. I felt kinda dumb that I had called him, but he made me feel so comfortable and I enjoyed our conversation so much, that I was actually glad I had called. He always had a way of lifting my spirits and his sense of humor helped take the seriousness out of things. Blake and I just loved being around him! You and Spencer are two of the kindest, most caring people we have ever known. We really do miss him!! Camie Brickhouse Dallas, Texas

Loren and family: I apologize for just seeing this today and missing the services. I had a houseful over Xmas and New Years as my son Brian, wife Jasmine and grandson herbert were here from Liverpool England where he teaches at Liverpool Hope Law School. Did not notice Spencer's obit until today as I am catching up on my reading! I kind of lost touch with Him after I stopped playing tennis after the divorce and a broken wrist. But will miss him nonetheless. He was great and fun to be around, and of course joined us in our impromptu tennis christmas serenades to the houses of the tennis players- at least the ones that opened their doors after seeing a rowdy bunch of slightly off key tennis players in their front yards! Ha! I still live in Sparkman at 10733 Cromwell, [email protected]. If you need somewhere to swim when sparkman is closed, just stop by here! When it is much warmer of course! No doubt that he is up in heaven in charge of hunting and fishing lodges up there! Peace and Love, dave jones.

Spencer was an absolute joy to have as a friend. I don't think we ever saw him without a smile followed by a quick-witted joke! Colin always came back from visiting the Adairs with some sort of a story the Spencer shared and had us all laughing. We love him and miss him dearly.

Spencer to many, always Speedy to me. I think of all of the misadventures we had many years ago, and they all bring a smile, sometimes a laugh thinking about them. I always enjoyed making you laugh; it was so easy to do. And through the years when we were together, regardless of the circumstances, we always had something to laugh about. I am so sad you are gone. My thoughts and love go out to Loren, Shannon, Wiley, and Hayden. I will miss you my friend. Your smile, and that happy mischievous sparkle in your eyes will always be remembered.

I was able to meet Speedy one weekend his niece, Janet, and I were able to stay with him and his wife Loren so that we could go to a Razorback football game. They were kind enough to take us out to a wonderful Mexican restaurant for dinner. One night he wanted to show Janet and me how to peel a mango. I can't pass the mangos at the grocery store to this day without thinking of him. What wonderful memories from someone that I only met once.

Cannot fully express my sympathy for your loss. From the day I first went to the deer lease and was introduced to Spencer, he never had a course word and was always as friendly and welcoming to a rookie hunter. From my few years of getting to know Spencer, I can say he was one of a kind - a gentleman, a caring man and best of all, a friend. My deepest condolences for your loss.

Spencer will be so missed by all his neighborhood friends. He was such a big part of all our lives and the lives of our children. Our neighborhood family will miss him dearly. Speedy was my first friend and boyfriend in 5th grade. He lived just 1/2 block from where I did and we were very close in elementary school. I'm very sad to hear he left his family and friends so young. I'm so grateful he came to last Central's reunion so we could reconnect. Praying for his family. He was a special person.

Genuine, kind, honest, down to earth, funny, and upbeat are some of the words we would use to describe our friend, Spencer. Most of all, he will be remembered as a man of faith, a man who loved his wife and family, and as a man who cared deeply about people. We loved him and Loren from the time we met them through our church. We joined their community group and they always made us feel welcome, comfortable, loved and cared for. Spencer was such a positive influence on the group. His happiness was very contagious and his sense of humor helped lighten things up which we all appreciated. It was such a blessing to know Spencer and have him as a friend. We are heartbroken and we will miss him deeply.
