Charles William McDougall, age 90, of Manistee, Michigan died Thursday, December 26, 2024 at his home, surrounded by his family.
He was born on July 2, 1934 in Wyandotte, Michigan son of the late Colin and Mary (Bryson) McDougall. He was a graduate of Manistee High School with the class of 1952. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War, from January 14, 1953 until January 13, 1956. Charles married Carol J. Swanson on October 18, 1958 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Manistee, Michigan. Chuck was a machine builder by trade and was employed for thirty years at the Ex-Cello company in Manistee, until the company closed its operations in Manistee. He then was employed with the Four Winns Boat Company in Cadillac, Michigan until his retirement. Wen his boys were young, he coached their T-Ball and Little League teams, and enjoyed playing slow-pitch baseball himself, in the Manistee leagues. Chuck was a big Detroit Red Wings follower and fan. He was a life member of the VFW Walsh Post #4499 of Manistee and a life member of the American Legion Post #10 of Manistee. Chuck and Carol wintered in Boynton Beach, Florida for the past twenty years.
He is survived by his wife, Carol J. McDougall of Manistee, MI; two sons and daughters in-law, Dan A. and Lori McDougall of Traverse City, MI, and Dennis and Donna McDougall of Manistee, MI; his grandsons and their spouses, Timothy and Ashley McDougall of Manistee, MI, and Daniel and Courtney McDougall of Valparaiso, Indiana; his great grandchildren, Collin and Brennen McDougall both of Valparaiso, Indiana. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive him.
Chuck was also preceded in death by his sisters and brothers in-law, Lil Simms, Isabell and Gilbert Parsons and Barbara Carde; and by his brothers and sisters in-law, James and Shirley McDougall, John and Marjorie McDougall, Robert and Darlene McDougall and Colin and Iona McDougall.
Graveside services will take place at Mount Carmel Cemetery in Manistee, in the spring of 2025, with Reverend James Bearss officiating, and where military honors will be given by the members of the Manistee County United Veterans Council Ritual Squad.
The Herbert Funeral Home of Manistee is in charge of funeral arrangements.
