Edmund W. Guzikowski Jr., age 80, of Manistee, Michigan, died Friday, January 28, 2022 at the Manistee County Medical Care Facility.
He was born on April 11, 1941 in Manistee, Michigan, son of the late Edmund "Bonje" Guzikowski and Gladys (German) Todd. He was a graduate of Manistee High School with the class of 1960. Ed marrieds Kathleen Pieczynski on January 28, 1961 at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Manistee. Ed died on their 61st wedding anniversary.
Ed began working at the Manistee Drop Forge Company in the 1970's and was employed there until the company closed their operations in the 1980's. He then was employed with the city of Manistee for 16 years, being the bridge tender, at his retirement in 2004. One of Ed's passions in life was baseball, and played fast pitch baseball with Shorty's Take Out, Bernie's IGA and for the Manistee Saints. Most of his life he also was an umpire in the slow pitch leagues in the Manistee area. He enjoyed fishing in his spare time. He was a past member of the Manistee Eagles Lodge #1765 when it was in operation, a member of the Divine Mercy Parish in Manistee, where he was an usher.
He is survived by his wife, of over 61 years, Kathleen "Kathy" Guzikowski of Manistee, three sons and one daughter in-law Eugene and Julie Guzikowski of Arvada, Colorado, Luke Guzikowski and Craig Guzikowski, and one son in-law, Jeff Szpliet all of Manistee, four grandchildren, Tyler Guzikowski, Darren Guzikowski Mitchel (Kayla) Guzikowski and Collin Guzikowski, his sister, Alice Johnson of Shepherd, M, and his brother Allen Guzikowski of California. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive him.
Ed was also preceded in death by two daughters, Monica Mae Guzikowski and Yvonne Marie Szpliet, his son Philip J. Guzikowski, his sister, Norma Wolf and by his two brothers, David Marrison and Albert M. Guzikowski.
Mass of Christian Burial, for Edmund and his son Philip Guzikowski, who died on Monday, November 15, 2021 in Manistee, will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at 11:30 AM at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Manistee with Revered Zeljko Guberovic celebrant. The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday morning, one hour prior to the funeral mass.
