Janice Mrozik Obituary

Janice Ann Mrozik
Manistee, Michigan
April 21, 1938 - May 26, 2022
Janice Ann (Cline) Laurimore Mrozik, age 84 of Manistee, passed away on Thursday May 26, 2022, after contracting and fighting pancreatic and liver cancer.
Janice, also known as "Jan", was born on a beautiful day, April 21, 1938, at home in Union City, MI to Uvena Elizabeth Larder Cline and Lewis Henry Cline. She grew up on the family farm, where there were Jersey cows, chickens, horses, and a large family garden to help tend. She loved spending time with the animals and exploring the fields and woods on the property. She loved training and riding horses.
She graduated from Union City High School in 1956 and worked as a secretary at Star Mobile Homes in Union City, and summer employment at Kellogg's cereal plant in Battle Creek while attending college.
Janice attended Alma College, in Alma, MI, and later Western Michigan University, in Kalamazoo, MI, where she graduated with a master's degree in art education and science. She was a substitute teacher in Coldwater and Bronson Schools, taught 4th grade in Coldwater, and 6th grade in Bronson at St. Mary's Catholic School.
Janice became employed by the state of Michigan, working at the MESC, Coldwater Regional Center, and lastly at Florence Crane Women's Facility/Department of Corrections, as a GED preparation teacher, from where she retired.
Janice was married to Martin Laurimore for 26 years and they had two children, Jenifer Lyn Laurimore Ciesiolka of Indiana, and Peter Clayton Laurimore of California. She and Martin were wedding photographers in the Coldwater area for 10 years. Jan had a lifelong love of photography. This marriage ended in divorce in 1986.
Jan's second marriage was to James Anthony Mrozik, who was a merchant marine engineer on the Great Lakes and the oceans. She made a trip with Jim on the SS Beeghley from Detroit to Two Harbors, MN and back through the locks and the Great Lakes. She and Jim were antique dealers in the Coldwater and Allen, MI area for about 10 years. She and Jim made unique whirligigs from poplar wood, which she painted in a realistic style. They had lived in Manistee since 1999 and she loved living near Lake Michigan, photographing and painting pictures of it. She and Jim were boaters and fishers of Lake Michigan.
Jan loved to play her grand piano, sew quilts, make braided rugs, and paint with pastels, acrylics, and oils, as well as photography and she enjoyed cooking, boating, and gardening. She was talented in growing African Violets. She was a member of the Victorian Quilters of Manistee.
She is survived by her husband, James Mrozik; sister Margaret Weiss of Indiana; brother David Cline of Sherwood, MI; and her two children Jenifer Ciesiolka and Peter (Sherrie) Laurimore. She is also survived by her stepchildren Susan (Joe) Boyd of Franklin, NC, Michael (Candace) Mrozik of Conroe, TX, Ellen (Reg) Flewelling of Free Soil, MI, and Jimmy Mrozik of St. Petersburg, FL.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, her sister Joyce Howland, and her brother Curtis Cline, who went MIA at age 20 in Vietnam in September of 1969.
A Celebration of Life for Jan will be held on Thursday June 2, 2022, from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM at Oak Grove Funeral Home in Manistee.
