Sister Mary Bartoszek
Livonia, MI
05/25/2025
Sister Mary Honoria Bartoszek, CSSF (Mary Ann Bartoszek) died at the Central Convent in Livonia, MI Sunday evening May 25th. Sister was 96 years old and a religious sister for 77 years.
Sister Honoria was the daughter of John and Bernice (Szplit) Bartoszek. She was the fourth of five children, being a twin to Betty Carboneau, and younger sibling to Beatrice Dauginis, Donald and Joseph Bartoszek, all who have preceded her in death.
Sister grew up in St. Joseph Parish and was in the first Graduating class of 1947 from St. Joseph High School. She felt the call to religious life and on June 24, 1947, following graduation she was accepted into the Felician Congregation. She was invested with the Felician habit on August 15, 1948 and made her first profession of vows in August 1949 and final profession in August 1955.
She earned a bachelor's degree from Madonna University and spent 49 years teaching primary grades. Sister taught in many places in Michigan and Ohio where the sisters staffed parish schools, and she felt very blessed to teach for 10 years at Manistee Catholic Central when her parents were in their final years. After teaching for many years, Sister ministered at the the sisters retreat center in Holly Mich, and then moving to the Madonna convent in Livonia where she was the seamstress, and performed other house duties to assist the sisters.
Sister was well known to the Sisters for her culinary arts and deserts. On special feast days she would make her delicious crème puffs for the whole house.
Sister lived a very religious and social life. She was fortunate to go to Rome three times. She always loved coming home for holidays, family celebrations and her vacation time before the school year began.
Sister is survived by her nieces and nephews, Carol Kosiboski, Rose (Larry) Sedlar, Jackie (Mike) Kovach, Rose (Derek Dilaura) Tom, Jim, Jerry (Connie) and Fr. Rich Bartoszek. Besides her parents and siblings she was preceded in death by Ann and Michael Carboneau, Sue Soller, Mary Lou Racine and Tina Kosiboski.
Sister's funeral will be Livonia at the Blessed Virgin Mary Chapel of the Felician Sisters Central Convent on Thursday May 29th. Morning Prayer will began at 10:30 a.m., followed by the Mass of Resurrection at 11 a.m. celebrated by her nephew Fr. Rich. Burial will follow at Holy Sepluchre Cemetery in Southfield Michigan. Always found her to be very caring. A real educator! Wonderful product of the first class of St. Joseph High School. Wonder if Bishop will recognize her as a pioneer we will never see again. I always felt a kinship to Sister because I was a graduate of the first class of Manistee Catholic High and came back to work there for 37 years.RIP Sister!
