Pamela Overla Obituary

Pamela Ann Overla
Crown Point, IN
March 2, 1942 - April 13, 2024
Pamela Ann Overla, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, peacefully
passed away on April 13, 2024, at the age of 82, embraced by the loving arms of her
Savior.
Pamela was preceded in death by her devoted parents, Marlon and June Sholtey, of
Bear Lake, Michigan, and Cedar Lake, Indiana, as well as her dear brother, David
Sholtey, of O'Fallon, MO.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Terry (Mary) Overla of Crown Point, IN;
Tammy (Jeff) Silvey of Aurora, IL; Trace (Marcie) Overla of Vicksburg, MI; and Torry
(Jay) Murphy of Crown Point, IN. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren:
Sara Overla, Aaron (Katie) Overla, Deb (Perry) Little, Hannah (Trevor) Funston, Jeffrey
Silvey, Heather (Evan) Schludecker, Brianna Overla, Jeremy Murphy, Elisabeth Murphy,
Isaac Murphy, and Joel Murphy, as well as her cherished great-grandchildren: Tyler
(Kathryn), McKenna (Hunter), Bryce, Drake, Bronx, Madix, Matthew, Emily, James,
John, and Moira.
Pamela was born on March 2, 1942, in Niles, Michigan, and spent her early years
between southern Michigan and Florida. In 1958, her family settled in Bear Lake,
Michigan, where they built and operated the Marina. Pamela lovingly raised her four
children in Bear Lake before relocating to Northwest Indiana in 1982.
Throughout her life in Michigan and Indiana, Pamela was an active and devoted
member of her local church. She dedicated herself to various ministries, including
teaching Sunday School, directing youth groups, participating in the bus ministry,
singing in the choir, caring for the nursery, and cleaning and maintaining the church
facilities. During her decades at the First Baptist Church of Hammond, IN, she was an
integral part of the ladies' soul-winning group and an avid soulwinner everywhere she
went, she taught a first grade girls Sunday school class, assisted in the Pathfinders
department and Blue Denim and Lace, helped with youth conference every year,
cleaned a Sunday school department every Sunday night, visited shut-ins, started the
Baptist Bread ministry, and was affectionately known as the "banana bread lady." She
always had treats and sweet notes for the children and for her numerous church friends.
Pamela also touched the lives of many as a beloved daycare director and pre-school
teacher at the Lowell Childcare and Learning Center in Lowell, Indiana.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at Memory Lane Memorial Park and
Funeral Home in Crown Point, Indiana, on Thursday, April 18, from 10 AM to noon. A
funeral service will commence at noon, followed by interment at Memory Lane.

Our family has many fond memories of Mrs. Overla. She took great care of Michelle and Jacob for their years at the Lowell daycare. I never had to worry because of her, Mary and the rest of the employees. Our sympathies to her family and friends.
