MANISTEE -- On Sunday, April 8, 2018 Ronald O'Brien, 61, of Manistee passed away peacefully surrounded by family.
He was born on June 21, 1956 in Marion, Ind. to Mary J. (Popa) and the late John L. O'Brien Jr.
As a young boy, his family moved to Manistee. Ron graduated from Manistee High School in 1975. He was an avid learner of small and big machines alike, working as an automotive mechanic for many years.
In his free time, Ron loved to be outdoors, whether it was to go fishing, camping with family or even hanging outside beside a bonfire. Anyone who'd see him out and about was always greeted with a warm smile. The light of his life were his two daughters, Erika (Ben) Thompson of Manistee and Megan O'Brien of Los Angeles.
Ron was the middle of seven children, and is survived by his mother; siblings, John O'Brien of Manistee, Kathy and Mark Schott of Brethren, George O'Brien of Manistee, Dave and Rena O'Brien of Manistee, and Deanna Howe of Manistee. Several nieces and nephews also survive him.
He was preceded in death by: his father, John; his brother, Edward; and his brothers-in-law, Don Howe and Ralph Kuna Jr.
Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals will be celebrated at noon, Saturday, April 14. 2018, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Manistee. A gathering for friends and family will follow in the parish center. There will be light refreshments.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family to help with final expenses.

It saddens me deeply to hear of Ron's passing. I know he is in a better place and at peace. My childhood memories always include Ron. I believe I spent more time at the O'Brien's house than my own. All of you are in my thoughts and prayers. God Bless each and everyone of you.
