William Tageson Obituary

William "Bill" Clyde Tageson
Rockford, MI
August 24, 1949 - August 30, 2023
William "Bill" Clyde Tageson passed away peacefully in Grand Rapids, Michigan on August 30, 2023 at the age of 74.
He was born in Manistee, Michigan on August 24,1949. He made lifelong friendships throughout his career at JCPenney which led him to many cities, including Flint, Holland, Saginaw, Kalamazoo and Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. It was here he met some of his best friends and ran his own business, HorsePlace, before moving back to his beloved hometown of Manistee to enjoy his retirement.
Bill always had a smile and a story to share, and he got better looking every day. He loved salmon fishing on Lake Michigan, golfing, and playing cards with anyone who would take a seat at the table. But Bill was truly happiest when surrounded by his family.
He will forever be remembered by his wife, Deborah. He was the loving father of five children: William Tageson Jr., Christopher Tageson, Matthew (Dawn) Tageson, Sarah Tageson and Megan (Nick) Hilliard and his grandchildren Riley, Miller, Carter, Cassandra Jean, and Raegan. He is also survived by his sisters Penny Ozdych and Patricia Pepera and his brothers- and sisters-in-law: Diane Beecher, Shelley Alger, Stephen Alger, Sherrie Alger, Charles (Jeanne) Alger, John (Heather) Alger and extended family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Clyde Tageson and Sara (Maternowski) Tageson, his first wife Sandra (Lyman) Tageson and brothers-in-law Richard Pepera, Lee Ozdych, Richard Beecher and Don Alger.
The family will be holding an open house on Sunday, September 3 at his home in Rockford. We invite friends and family to join us in celebrating Bill's life. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer's Association at http://act.alz.org/goto/Bill_Tageson or the Alger Scholarship Fund.

Deb and family. Jan and I are saddened to hear of Bill´s passing. Although we haven´t touched base for many years, I have often thought of him. He as my trainer in downtown Lansing and I always valued his friendship and leadership. Regrettably I didn´t know that he had returned to Manistee, since we are so close in Traverse City. Rest in peace my friend.

Mr. Tageson hired me at JCPenney KOP as a 16 year old kid and promoted me years later as a Department Manager in Children's. 29 years later and I still work for JCPenney at the Home Office. I always remember his sense of humor and patience. You will be missed and I will never forget what you did for me!
