Bettie I. Claytor

SUMMERFIELD, FL: Bettie I. Claytor, age 83, resident of Summerfield, Florida, and former Shelby resident, died Thursday, April 7, 2011, at Mansfield Memorial Homes.

Born in Marion, Ohio, October 18, 1927, to Burton and Norma (Lamb) Grogg, she had been a Shelby resident since 1956, moving to Florida in 1993. She was a member and past president of the VFW Post #291 Ladies Auxiliary, past Grand President of the Military Order of the Cootie and was a member of the Eastern Star. Bettie was a homemaker who enjoyed her family, dancing and socializing with her Florida friends the "Golden Girls". She will be remembered for her strong will and outgoing personality.

Survivors include four sons, Charles Thomas (Gail) Claytor, Jr., Brian D. Claytor, Randi L. (Kim) Claytor, all of Shelby, and Barry A. (Joanne) Claytor of Alta Loma, CA; eleven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two brothers; and three sisters; her step mother, Lucille Grogg of Marion; nieces; nephews; and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles T. Claytor, one son, Michael L. Claytor and two brothers.

Memorial services will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 14, 2011, from the Barkdull Funeral Home. Dallas Waggle, chaplain with Southern Care Hospice, will officiate with interment in Oak Grove Cemetery, Lexington. Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m.
