Eric Meister Obituary
MANSFIELD, OH: Technical Sergeant Eric W. Meister, 39, of Mansfield, died Thursday, April 28, 2011. Born April 22, 1972 in Mansfield, he was the son of Dean Meister and Pamela Smith. A 1990 Madison High School graduate, Eric entered the U.S. Air Force one month after graduation. He was a Gulf War Veteran and served 20 years with the 179th Airlift Wing of the Ohio Air National Guard. Eric played baseball and soccer in his earlier days and his life continued to revolve around soccer, playing for the Mansfield Leiderkranz and coaching his stepson, Cody's U-18 soccer team and his son, Christian's U-15 soccer team at the Leiderkranz. He was a member of the Mansfield Leiderkranz and VFW Post 9943. A Michigan football fan, Eric enjoyed paintballing and spending time with his children.
He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Pam (Bob) Imhoff of Mansfield; wife, Nichole Bandy Meister of Mansfield; children, Christian, Alexis, Makenzie, and Halle, all of Mansfield; stepchildren, Cody and Raven Festge, both of Mansfield; sister, Mandie Eaton of Mansfield; brother, Josh Eaton of Mansfield; half brother, Rob (Miranda) Eaton; close friends, Steve Foss, Curt Walker, and Brandon Schisler; special cousin, Dennis Smith; and many, many friends. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, James E. Smith and Phyllis J. Blamer and paternal grandparents, Walt and Marilyn Meister.
Friends may call Monday, May 2, 2011 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Rd., Ontario. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home conducted by Chaplain David Shirley. Military graveside services conducted by the Air Force Honor Guard will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mansfield Liederkranz U-15 Soccer Team.

Pam, Mandie,Josh,Rob,Dennis&Krista, and Eric's kids,
Two weeks have gone by and the loss felt is still great. Eric was a great man in my eye's and even is now greater. Your love for each other and Eric is truly inspiring. Stay strong and know that your love for him allows other people like me to get to know him even more I than before. With you and your love for him, Eric will never die. I am truly honored to have known him and to still hear about him.

To the best soccer coach I ever had,
You taught me so much. From the day I walked into practice being the only girl and with my new braces on, the day the boys looked at me with doubt, the day the boys supported me and stood up for me against other teams, the day you yelled at me for my mistakes like everyone else, the day you worked me to my hardest, the day you ran us until we nearly died, the day you were concerned about me and my shin splints, to the day we won second place in Indiana - you've been a wonderful friend and supporter. You taught us footskills, psych-outs, field positions, and #1, how to be tough. You made us do header after header from corner kicks and gave us crap when we deserved it and didn't step up. I'll never forget the most meaningful soccer years of my life. As your team, we will do our best to apply what you've taught us over the years into our own lives. We love you and will miss you. There are never the "right words" to say to comfort family and friends when they lose a loved one except we are sending you all,(especially Pam Imhoff and Bob Imhoff as they have been our friends/neighbors for years), our thoughts and prayers. No one is ever prepared for such a great loss. One of the nicest memories we have of Eric is watching him swing his children on the swing set behind Pam Imhoff and Bob Imhoff's home. They were all giggling and so happy. We are so sorry those times will now be just sweet memories. Please know that Kevin and Diane McMahon will be sending you our prayers and caring hearts. I'm not good with words Nikki since I just buried Gary. But I can say this... Gary and Eric are probably chatting about soccer right now! They've played some good games together and probably living off the moments they shared. I feel your pain and your children's pain. We will all get through this in time. I salute Eric for his service to our country. I salute Eric for keeping soccer alive and well in this area. When I was coaching it was always nice to see him on the sidelines. He was a good man and will be missed sadly. My condolences to Nikki and her family.
