Gerald W. Pahl

MANSFIELD: Gerald W. Pahl, 81, from Mansfield and formerly of Carey, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 14, 2015.

Born on March 1, 1933 in Carey, he was the son of the late Elizabeth Hunter. He was adopted by Sylvester and Ruth Belle (Nye) Pahl and they preceded him in death.

He married Eva A. Burks on March 1, 1957 at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Carey. She resides in Mansfield; also surviving are his five children: Jeff (Sheila) Pahl, Union, KY, Donn G. (Christy) Pahl, Sycamore, Doug Pahl, Nashville, TN, Sandy (Thom) Weber, Lexington and Jack (Brenda) Pahl, Lexington; 16 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; a brother: Ronald Thomas, Mosquite, NV; and three sisters: Lynn (Bob) Harper, Pat (Dave) Martin, and Joan (Jim) Healy.

Preceding him in death are three sisters: Mildred Hunter, Bertha Schade, and Donna Hunter; and two brothers: Edwin Pahl and David (Sandra) Brown.

Upon graduating from Carey High School, he joined the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He attended Oklahoma University while in the service. He later earned his Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from The Ohio State University and his MBA from Xavier University.

He was the founder and CEO of Pahl Engineering. As a Professional Engineer, his prized project was his design of the field lighting at the Pro Football Hall of Fame field in Canton, Ohio.

He was a member of First English Lutheran Church in Mansfield, the Masonic Bodies in Mansfield and a 32nd degree Mason. He was past president of the OSU Alumni Association in Mansfield.

Gerald was a true family man. He absolutely adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was an outstanding father and father in-law and a loving, generous husband. He will be remembered as a well organized, hard working, and very giving person and an avid Buckeye fan. He will be missed by many.

Friends will be received Monday, January 19, 2015 from 4-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday, at the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey, Ohio. Services will be held Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at 11:00 a.m., at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Carey with Rev. Paul Larson officiating. Burial will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery, Carey with military graveside rites conducted by Carey Honor Guard.

Contributions may be made to The Wounded Warrior Project, Hospice of the donor's choice, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in care of Stombaugh~Batton Funeral Home, 225 West Findlay Street, Carey, Ohio 43316.
