Irene Whisler Obituary

Irene Whisler

MANSFIELD: Baking was Irene Whisler's love language. Her scratch chocolate cake, apple pie and dumplings became family favorites. No visit to her home was complete without something to eat - she insisted. She dearly loved her family, and loved serving them. For Irene, baking was love made visible.

Irene passed away Friday afternoon January 2, 2015 in OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus. She was 95.

Born October 4, 1919 in Morrow County, she was the daughter of William & Ethel (Rinehart) Smith.

Irene had worked as a clerk for the former Kobacher's Department Store, then as a clerk and buyer for Reed's, and finally as an associate with Lazarus.

She was a member of Mansfield Seventh-day Adventist Church, enjoyed oil painting, and played both the organ & accordion by ear.

She is survived by her daughter, Laurella Guntharp of Port St. Lucie, FL; her son, J. Tim and Pauline Whisler of Bucyrus; her daughter-in-law Ilene Whisler of Mansfield; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; 15 great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Virgil L. Whisler in 1953; also deceased are her daughter, Margaret Ruth; her son, Willard Whisler; two granddaughters; a great granddaughter; four brothers and two sisters.

The Whisler family will receive friends Thursday, January 8, 2015 from 10 a.m. until 12 noon in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home, where her funeral service will immediately follow at 12 noon. Pastor Edward Marton will officiate. Burial will follow in Shauck Cemetery.

Contributions in her memory to Mansfield Seventh-day Adventist Church may be made at the funeral home.

Snyder Funeral Home is honored to serve the Whisler family and a message of condolence or fond memory may be shared with them online at: SnyderFuneralHomes.com
